my image uploading experience has been frustrating lately as it often takes 10-15 minutes to upload one image to be posted. I figure the reason could be the combination of my network uploading limitation and too large size (I use 2000x1500 pixel PNG 16bit) of the images I post to share. Are there rules of image size limits to be posted? For example the limits 1600x1200 pixels and 1200k are applied to many photo share websites. Or the site will automatically downsize/compress an uploaded image if it is over the limits.
If Cameraderie.org is going to downsize/compress my oversize images for posting anyway, I can make the image sizes to fit up to the limits beforehead so the quality of my uploaded images and the uploading speed can be improved significantly. Thanks.

I have been uploading 75% jpgs sized to 1600px long side and have noticed no problem, either with speed or image quality. I was interested in the choice to upload png and investigated. I exported the same file from Photoshop sized to 1600px to 1., jpg 75%, 2., png 16-bit and 3., png 8-bit. The jpg weighed 584kb, the png-8 weighed 1mb and the png-16 weighed 3mb (a bit over 5 times heavier). This could go a long way towards explaining your long upload times.

There are limits; first and foremost, 16bit PNGs won't be needed, 8bit is enough and all that you'll be left with after compression anyway as far as I can judge it - compression will also be rather heavy-handed the more demanding the bit depth and profile are; my advice would be 8bit JPEGs and sRGB anyway (for web use).

Secondly, your images will be resized; 1600px at the longest edge - so you can resize.

However, I guess it's more a limitation on your connection (whatever the cause may be); I upload full-size files *all the time* with no issues (except for crushed shadows due to the compression algorithm).

thanks Matt. i will give it a try… 1600x1200 8bit jpeg it is.
i concur that my connection is the limit because in china connecting websites in other countries is discouraged…
