Fuji XPRO2 cold weather shutter sticking

So wanted to get some input from others here about the XPRO2 and cold weather.

I was outside today. temps were between 30-35F.

About every third shot or so, the camera would act as of the shutter would stick and could take anywhere from 5-15 seconds to free up and take a shot.

I was not even out side an hour. Camera was in the camera bag in the house all day, to the car, then out to the dog park. Camera stayed in the bag until I needed it, then used, and back in the bag.

Battery 1 was half full, battery 2 was fully charged. I swapped out to make sure it was not a power issue.

Any thought on if this is something to send to Fuji ? Makes me want to repeat the same scenario with the XT3 and see if it does the same.

I’ve been out in worse with other cameras and these in the past. Heck, had the Oly EM1.2 out last weekend for 2 hours in 15F and that thing didn’t even blink an eye.

That’s in advance for any feedback.

OK, so I got home and did some additional diagnostics. Turns out it might be the batch of Wasabi batteries I got for the XPRO2. I had those with me (one in the camera and one fully charged in the bag). When I got home, I tried recreating the issue again and sure enough, even in the house with the camera at room temp, there were lag issues on the shutter. The more I looked at it, the more I realized that the camera was acting like it was shutting down - like the power was being interrupted. The shutter didn't sound right - if that makes any sense.

After trying the camera again with a ProMaster and a Fuji OEM 126 battery, the camera has functioned flawlessly for about 50 test shots around the house.

I'm glad it was just a bad battery (my first in any camera I've ever had) and not an issue with the camera itself.

I decided to inspect the battery a little more. I think it may have started to bulge some. Couldn’t perceive any distortion of the case with the eye, and I do not have any kind of calipers to check scientifically.

However, I did notice that the battery did not drop freely from the battery compartment. I needed to pull it out. Now, it wasn’t super snug, but again checking other batteries that I have, they all dropped freely from the compartment from gravity alone.

So, that battery is gone to the recycle center. May replace it, but honestly in no hurry, have plenty of others.

Glad it was a battery. I once had a full mechanical Hasselblad 1000F, and oldie but goodie -- except in the cold the lubrication caused it to lock up. I should have brought it in to have appropriate lubrication applied, but someone wanted to buy it, so I sold it -- and later got a 500CM that did not have the issue. Nor did it take batteries.

I've used Wasabi batteries with no problem, although other third party ones have started swelling on me.

I’ve only ever had one wasabi battery, it was for a Fuji, and it bulged to the point I could barely remove it. It’s the only third party battery I’ve ever had an issue with. For whatever that’s worth. Glad your camera is still ok.

Another update. Had a second Wasabi branded battery fail on me and cause issues with my X-Pro2. Going to be dropping all of them into the recycle and will only be using Fuji branded 126 batteries in it from now on.

I’m surprised as this is the first I’ve had an issue like this with that brand of battery. Better safe than sorry though and would rather spend a little extra for OEM Fuji batteries than possibly damage the camera with third party batteries.

It’s always possible something changed on their end. Some part or chemical source got changed.
