Fuji Nikon SB900 flash malarkey

Russ, nice setup there. I used a 283 with the off camera adapter many times. After about 1000 exposures, I was told the voltage was to high. Hmmm
Anyway that is a cool way to work. Ya could hold the flash at any angle and have some interesting control over the light and shadows.

Now sometimes I use a Nikon SB22s on the GXR. I'm working on getting it off camera....
Really cool with snap focus.

I used my 283 on and off the X100 many times too.

My 283 is really old. Mid to late 1970's vintage. I just measured 293 volts on the end of the extension cable.

Oops.

I'm so sad to stop using something that has been so extraordinarily useful and reliable over so many years. With the stock sensor or the Varipower dial-your-pleasure module plugged in, and the off-camera cable, it's been a trusted and versatile tool.

I guess I'll relegate it to being fired from a sync device and think about getting something a little more modern to take its place. Any suggestions anyone?

Have you checked the voltage with the cord that gets the 283 off the camera? I haven't checked that yet. My SB22s is under the danger zone.
The 283 is way over but I never had a problem. My 283's are from the 70's and still about as good as it gets.
Maybe I'll check the voltage if I remember to do so.

Don - yes that 293V was off the end of the off-camera cable. Probably ours are of a similar vintage. Mine has a Vivitar Canada label on it but no date that I can see. Great flash. Runs a treat off modern Eneloop batteries.

But my Metz 60 CT-4 comes in at 9V. Small mercy... I don't often hook up the big beast to compact cameras although the overall look is quirky-fun. It definitely never comes with me on random walk abouts.

Mike
