GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

I got a refurbished EM-10 IV at OM's recent outlet sale. I like this camera because it is lightweight and compact, the screen TILTS, the EVF is bright and clear, it has effective IS, the control wheels are big, it uses the same batteries as my EM-5 III, and the price was low for what you get (under $500 including tax). The camera arrived in new condition.

Small Acquisition; LTM to M adapter for 28mm/90mm LTM focal lengths to go with the newly acquired Skopar 28mm lens which I’ve been using this week so far with a 50mm/75mm adapter. To be honest, as the lens is being used primarily for hyperfocal focusing, I’ve realised the adapter wasn’t *really* essential; the 28mm RF window is so wide it virtually covers all of the RF window anyway and still objects can still be focused on perfectly well with the 50/75 adapter. But the acquisition was less than $10 so no matter.

Bigger acquisition; For the first time I outmanoeuvred all on eBay to snag a lens, that being a thin Tele Elmarit 90mm. My favourite 90mm is the first version Summicron which can be had for very little money. The images from that lens have their own signature, are wonderful and to me look far better than the Summilux 75mm F1.4 which costs ten times as much. But it’s just too much of a brick, the thing’s huge. So, a much smaller Tele Elmarit for $71(!) it is. I would have preferred one of the older collapsible 90mm Elmars (also cheap) but I just know that either me or someone else is eventually going to absent-mindlessly collapse that thing while it’s attached the camera and destroy it, so by going with the Tele Elmarit, it’s as much a protective safety measure as anything else.

The new acquisition is nowhere near as technically good and able as my Nikkor Z 85mm, which will continue to be used for low light night shots and events such as marathons and the like. But the Tele Elmarit will be used for everything else under that same/ similar focal length. In terms of which of those lenses will render a digitally enhanced looking image (boo!) and which one won’t (yay!), the answer’s obvious, so I’m very happy with the new purchase.

If I get on with it ok then I might have a look at the 135mm RF options. What I've noticed so far is that it’s a lot easier to focus with the 90mm FL than I feared.

I find the 135mm f/4 Elmar to be a very nice, rewarding lens ... and it's manageable, a lot better than the huge 135mm f/2.8 (even more so when used with goggles ...).

These arrived today. The 23mm isn't a big lens - in fact, it's slightly smaller than the Nikon Z 28mm f/2.8 without the hood (which I'll use anyway). It handles fantastically well on the Nikon Z fc. Look at how tiny the 40mm f/2.8 is! It's small enough to be a bit hard to remove from a M body - but I'm thoroughly intrigued; it feels very nicely made. It also came with its tiny hood attached.

Looking forward to the rest of the summer (and SiJy 22)!

Oooh la la! That 40mm is absolutely tiny! Now I'm thinking about a Bessa-L with that and a compact viewfinder like the Ricoh one for the GR IIIx... or maybe a CL or CLE. Seems like those would be a perfect match.

I have a CL ... but its very own Summicron-C 40mm f/2 is not a lot bigger. Anyhow, I wanted to try the Heliar formula ever since I saw it in action - and now I can.

I'll be happy to see it! My experience, however short, with the 50mm f3.5 Heliar impressed me with the sharpness and smooth rendering of that lens, I'm interested to see whether the 40mm formula has similar characteristics.
