Picked up a black Panny/Leica 15mm for my m4/3 kit. I rented one years ago and thought it was outstanding. I think it will sit perfectly on either my e-m10 or silver pen f. I recently sold my silver Oly 17mm, so this has taken its place.

Also picked up a 46-49mm filter thread adapter so I can use all the filters I purchased for my Leica Q on this lens.

Nice. That’s one of the lenses that draws me towards m43. Too bad the aperture ring won’t work on the Oly bodies, but since it replaces the 17mm for you, nothing that you will miss.

Would be curious to see how this PanLeica compares against the Q in terms of IQ.

Totally agree on the aperture ring. That would really give the pen f a great feel.

I do think the 15mm is up there with the sharpest lenses available for m4/3, but even with that said, I’m not sure the comparison between Leica glass from Q to the pl15 would ever be even given all the other variables.

Serious congrats, Chris.
The 15mm PL is I think my all time favorite M43 lens. It seems to somehow create pictures which, if taken with other lenses would be good or borderline great, and somehow make them special...or magic. I hope you enjoy it.

I found the PL 25mm 1.4 to also have a magical quality to it, too. Even v1 is a great nifty-fifty, and is pretty cheap used.

I call the 15mm my "Mini-Summarit" - because I think it has the same qualities as the (modern) Summarits: high sharpness, neutral to bold presentation - a great general purpose lens. Obviously, the "Summilux" moniker doesn't help - though at least I see why it's used (after all, the lens *is* faster than f/2). On a stabilised body, I find it to be a very good low-light lens as well. It really shines on the GX9 - yes, with the aperture ring working, my favourite way of using a lens. That said, I enjoy using it on the E-M5 III as well. However ...

The 25mm II is my "Mini-Summicron" (again, "Summilux" is just wishful thinking): It renders in a very similar way to the Summicron-M 50mm f/2, very appealing with nice transitions. I used to own the Olympus 25mm f/1.8 and liked that lens for its size and very good image quality (very well corrected), but while it could compete in terms of sharpness and contrast, it didn't have the same smoothness to the images - it was, in fact, a little clinical - predictable, a bit flat, with sudden transitions (not exactly harsh, but it lacked subtlety at times).

At the moment, the 25mm II even beats the 15mm as my favourite :mu43: prime (not by a lot, but still) - because while the 15mm may be slightly sharper (it *is* contrastier), it's not quite as charming. Both lenses can't quite hold up against the "original", but they're still very good - not perfect, but compact while being really quite competent. I'm not sure how much their "Leica" designation really helps, but ... at least it helped me giving them "names"

btw. the 25mm II focuses a lot smoother than the original, and the optics are slightly updated as well (less CA) - just saying ... Both lenses have quick and quiet AF now - and I enjoy the short minimal focus distance over other systems' offerings.

Another purchase for my trip to London... got this book recommended and it was on sale so it would be rude not to! Hopefully it will provide some help when guiding my wife and kids through London whilst making sure I hit some good photography spots at the same time ;)

So the Oly 12-50 finally appeared:
Olympus 12-50 g90--2.jpgOlympus 12-50 g90-.jpg

Sorry for the lacklustre quality, I think I am seeing where the small sensors comes up somewhat short, the last shot is blurred intentionally as I am a innocent man and it seemed a bit obscene... (or I may have missed that the camera missed focus).

First impression is that I like it, mounted it on the G90, and I think it is a good match for that. It is unobtrusive, even with the length, at least on the G90 body, most likely it will be on the GX9 as well. The smaller bodies probably not so much, and as it is a Olympus lens, it will with the GFs and GMs, give a totally unstabilised package.

It came with firmware 1.3 so I upgraded it to 1.4. It is same straight-forward procedure with the Oly lenses as the Lumix ones, whilst on a Lumix body.
The procedure is with a fully charged battery and the freshly formatted card, insert card in PC, drag the .bin file over on the card, pop it in the camera. Turn on camera and press show pictures button and it will install itself. Very easy.

Am awaiting a JCC copy hood for it, ordered via Ebay so it takes some time for it to reach these shores.

Haven't used it in earnest yet, but horsed around with it a bit. The Macro function gives a 1.3 ratio at 43 mm focal length and aperture 6, or so I read, with an approx distance from teh front lens to the object at about 10 cm/4" based on the fact that it is a non-collapsible design. I may try it with some Meike rings I have in the cupboard, somewhere down the road. Popping that zoom ring back and forth for manual or motordriven zoom and sometimes whilst pushing in the Macro button makes for an interesting design. Interesting design is somewhat why I took a fancy to it in the first place.

The second reason was to see if its slender design and light weight (211 grams) made it as unobtrusive as I thought and that is my general feel for now. I had pondered getting the Lumix 12-60 for a "dog walking lens", but having the PL12-60 made me iffy to spend the cash on one for marginally lower weight and a dip in IQ, this one I got for $100/€100 inc postage and 20bucks for the lens hood, so 120 all in and a weight saving of 110 grams or about 3.8ish ounces and a serious dip in IQ by what most reviews has stated. Am thinking it will make a nice pair alongside the Lumix 45-175.

Guess I will find out over the coming days. :th_salute:

This leaves the lens fancy at 3 items, the Olys 17mm f:2.8 and 14-42 pancake and fresh to the "fancy pile", the PL 9mm.

Jens, it's a lot better lens than most reviewers say it is. The Imaging Resources review shows that quite clearly, as do photos taken with it.

I haven’t been able to be online much lately, but I snapped up a near-mint pre-owned X100v last week. I’ve owned all the prior X100’s at some point, decided it was finally time to give the “V” a try. I put a Squarehood and my favorite Gordy’s wrist strap on it, and have been having some fun. Pics coming soon.

Ok, I hadnt bought anything in over a week.

8 days since last, so when this package deal came up I couldnt really resist:
GF7.jpgGF7 12-60.jpgG7 bakside.jpgG7 full pakke.jpg

All in, with freight at $/€ 265ish, along with a 128 Gb memory card of some sort.

Trying some sort of new deal on the classifieds, so paid into a holding account and seller must accept the deal before 2357hours on Sunday. Its a decent price on the lens alone, which is what I am primarily interested in, having looked closer into it.

And there it was accepted so got it...

Getting the G7 body, Røde Video mic and a 128 GB SD card thrown in, for good measure is just added bonus. On the other hand, I would probably not have acted upon it if it was just the lens.
