Olympus Olympus in deep trouble.

Wow. That's kind of sad. I've watched Pentax bounce around the last few years. Panasonic could eliminate a lot of competition and get the Oly JPEG engines and optics .

Like Kodak.

The problem with selling your patents is you can only sell them once.

What I meant was that someone could buy the Olympus camera division to get that IP and patents, not that Olympus would sell them separately.

I once saw an interview with the head of US Pentax and he was asked why there are no camera major companies in the US and he stated it was because the Japanese camera companies own all of the core IP.

I don't think anyone will buy or Olympus will sell Camera division..however I could be wrong.. they will survive and when the dusts settles they will be around longer than you and I.. LOL.. just my two cents.. it's not going to happen..!!!

I bet with in 3 years Olympus is sold.

Do the names Pentax, Minolta or even Leica mean anything to you ?

I understand but what ever patents they hold if any the money made wouldn't be enough. To say they're in deep doo-doo is an understatement.

Heck, even the Japanese companies are having their stuff made elsewhere let alone a company here in the states would venture into this competitive market. Granted its nice to have options to choose from, but its been Canon and Nikon battling for the big DSLRs. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as an amateur Nikon shooter it wasn't all that long ago that Nikon was heading to the dumpster until they nailed their latest FF sensor camera. But nothing major has changed with them since then other than some newer FF lenses to go with the bodies.

Then you have Canon telling us their future plans but no hardware to see if its not vaporware.

I think this mirror less camera body phenomena is going to continue to grow and there will be the same battle between a couple companies that get it.

The problem with Olympus is that they have been lying for a long time about their business financial operational side. If you're a supplier you'd be wondering if you're going to get paid and the insecurity on what's going to happen in the future with this company is not good.

Right now you have senior leadership just trying to save their own bacon let along thinking about selling off part of the company.

All I can can to this YES. Doesn't really matter since I can shoot the rest of my life with what I have.

That's exactly the conclusion I've come to with my GXR kit. I'm still having trouble convincing my wife the DSLR needs to go. I took it out of the bag over Thanksgiving and charged the battery, checked the CF card and made sure the lens was clean. Then put it back in the bag and never came back out.
