John, he was a great guy. I spent a half day in his shop taking photographs, March of 2001. I told him I would make him some prints. I came back a few months later with letter size prints, about two laminated to protect them, and a bunch of 4 x 6's. He was surprised. He said everybody said they would give him photos but I was the first to do it. I warned him that the photos were light sensitive and to keep them out of the sun. Not to worry he told me, he was taking them home. A really nice guy and good baked goods. His rolls, bolillos, were delicious and a Mexican corruption of the Belgian mining company's name, BOLEO, which had had a big operation in town. They introduced the Belgian/French rolls which are throughout Mexico now. There was an iron church built by Gustave Eiffel for a world's fair that wound up in Santa Rosalia. BCS, Baja California Sur, la Frontera, is different than mainland Mexico. I prefer it. The link to the photos of the bakery and the guys who worked there. The fellow with the white hair and mustache is my buddy, Bob, who introduced me to the bakery. He was fluent in Italian so he got along fine in Spanish. Then there are the people the media love to tell us about ... .
Thank you for this lovely story and photo. What a good man.
