Single In Single in February (SiF) 2023: Here we go again ...

Hello all,

I would like to take part in this challenge. I was playing around with using one of my old cameras, an Olympus OM-D E-M1, as my selected camera for a bit of a challenge. But then it occurred to me that I would have to carry the camera around with me for each day of February. So I decided to use the camera which I would most likely have with me every day. - The OM System (Olympus) OM-1.

This then left me with a problem on which lens to use. I have no prime lenses, as I discovered many years ago that pro-level zooms fit in better with my type of photography than primes. My most-used lens is the Olympus 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO lens. It goes everywhere with me and I almost use it as a "security blanket". But I felt like limiting myself a bit. Sure, I'll still take the 12-100mm along with me every day, but for the purposes of this challenge, I'll also carry (and use) the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens.

Would this combination be acceptable?

I was hoping for another week to dawdle as I couldn't decide between my two decisions so I stuck my hand down below the cushion found some burnt matches, shell casings, and a centavo which I flipped and got what I really wanted which was the pen-f and 45 1.8. The other was the em5mkll with the 60 macro the pen seems like fun the em seemed more technical inclined. btw I just made that centavo business up I had to go look for a quarter 🤣

Update: Changing to a Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 on a Pany GX85
Reasons in post #60

Having recently acquired a cute little GM1, this is just what I need to get comfortable with it. I'll pair that with a lens I know fairly well, the P15mm f/1.7. The small package will help make sure I carry it everywhere.

So my intended tool kit will be: Panasonic DMC-GM1 w/Pana-Leica 15mm f/1.7

Should be fun! Thanks MM....

I've also decided on the OM-1 but with the Olympus 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO lens. I've not used the lens before and the OM-1 has only had a few outings. I'm curious to see how I cope lugging them around daily. I don't think I've ever done this challenge using a zoom lens. Will that make it easier this time around? Maybe, but I'm okay with that.

I am in!

The gear I am going to use is the Fujifilm Xpro2 and the newly released TTartisan 35mm f0.95.

I am also going one step further and will be just taking B&W photos for the month, using Fujifilm's fantastic "Acros" film simulation.
Just curious , I know you recently acquired the XT-5 are you not chuffed with it "as y'all say". I was hoping to see you put it through its paces but regardless am looking forward to your results with the xpro2. TBH , I bought a x-pro1 and a bag of lenses last year and have taken two photo's with it so perhaps that should have been my system for the challenge .

I do indeed have an XT5, and I am loving it. I have posted quite a few pics just in the last few days on various threads using it.

That being said, I know I can "chuck" my Xpro2 on my car passenger seat, in a coat pocket or wherever for the month, without being too overly precious with it.

Maybe once the XT5 has gained some battlescars, I won't feel so worried about taking it with me every day!? HAHA

I'm in. I'll be joining with an M10 and a Voigtlander VM 35mm Color-Skopar lens.

I had one of these lenses a couple years ago and used it as a small (tiny, really) travel 35 on a trip or two. While I was pleased with it, I sold it shortly after my last trip with it in favor of a more interesting 35. But since then, in spending time with the images made with the Color-Skopar, I now *really* like how it performed: the more I view and work with the photos from those trips, the more I have wanted to have another go with this lens. So I have just bought another one, haven't really used it yet, and I am hoping the performance of this copy is as good as my prior one. This will be a good opportunity to put it through its paces.

I'll probably code the lens in-camera as a Summicron 35, so that's how it'll show in the EXIF here, but the lens in my pics will in fact be the Color-Skopar.

Thanks for your time and efforts in organizing and managing this exercise, Matt! Looking forward to it.

Hmmmm.

Haven’t done one of these in a while but I feel in a bit of a rut at the moment and a challenge like this usually helps.

So, I am in though I am travelling to the US 27th Feb for a work trip so I might struggle to post anything on the last couple of days but I should manage to take pictures those days and post at some point a few days later.

Lens-wise it is a toss up between the two 7Artisans lenses, the 35/1.2mkII and the brand new 12/2.8mkII. I really don’t get on with “standard” lenses so I will stick with the 12/2.8 - hopefully, this will give me an opportunity to try some different things with it (like close ups etc.)

I will be using a Fuji X-T3 body.

I'd like to join this challenge, although I'm wondering what I'm getting into! Photography has been pushed to the background a bit lately and maybe this is the way to start again (with the necessary urge to come up with a result every day), I bought a Fuji XT-20 at the end of 2021 with the intention of having this camera converted for infrared, but so far it hasn't happened. All in all I will not have taken more than 50 pictures with this camera and maybe that is even too rough an estimate.

In April 2022 I bought 2 new Fuji lenses (10-24mm and 56mm) with which I probably didn't take more than 5 photos, so actually a shame. It will be a whole month of lugging, I think, but my set for this challenge will be: Fuji XT-20 with Fujinon f/1.2 - 56mm R lens.

Let me note that every day I will choose from my palette of '28 shades of sepia' in the finish of the chosen result, every day a broad interpretation that will always float somewhere between orange, red, gray and brown tones.

Very nice - just one question: Would that be the old or the new version of the 56mm lens?

I am in. I will be overseas in the tropics and I will use the GM5 + the Lumix G 12-32mm. I am not sure how easy the access to the internet will be but that's OK, I guess. I will have the 20mm with me but the 12-32mm makes the GM5 look more like a point-and-shoot. I will update the thread just in case I will change gear. Cheers.

Right, after @Acraftman commented on here about my new XT5 purchase, I have been in a personal battle the last few days. :ROFLMAO:

I have decided to change my gear selection for the challenge!

I want to use my new XT5. As for lens, although the TTArtisan 35mm 0.95 was going to be fun to use, it is right bang in the middle of my comfort zone with focal length (50mm FF eq.) and nice wide aperture, for that ultimate subject separation.

So I am going to go with the Fuji 27mm 2.8 MKII WR pancake lens instead. Wider FOV than I am used to, and at 2.8, I will find it harder as I won't be able to use a narrow DOF to hide my bad compositions and subject choice! Ha!

It might also encourage me to not just take portraits of my twin babies for the whole month. You all really would get bored of that, I assure you! :ROFLMAO:

I will however, not limit myself to just B&W, as a caveat to my change.

So @MoonMind if you could please change my entry to: Fujifilm XT5 & Fujinon 27mm f2.8 WR.

Hope this is ok?

Many thanks in advance

Edit: a quick photo of my new chosen gear. Yes, to those of you that may have noticed, I exchanged my silver XT5, for a black one in the end. As much as I liked silver, it was just too “bling”!

Having had a look see, and found that I tend to shoot these challenges with something compact, be it a advanced P&S or a small(ish) M43 body.

I think I must make the camera this time around, the oppsite side of the spectrum and use the G9. The lens will be either the Lumix 20 or the 42.5, am trotting a bit back and forth on those, ideally I would like to use the 42,5, but looking on the itinerary, I think it will end up being utilized as some sort of "make believe macro" inside the house, but ok, I`ll give it a go.

If I find it rather to restrictive in regards of how the month is going, I may swap it for the 20mm. I dont fancy having another frustrating experience as with the last one, using the Oly 9mm BCL, it became somewhat tedious towards the end of the month.

Lumix G9 with Lumix 42.5 f/1.7 it is then.

That looks like a very nice setup and I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures with it. I have to say that I am tempted by (but luckily not able to afford) the X-T5 - such an improvement over the disappointing X-T4 IMO.
