Micro 4/3 Panasonic - gives us a hint....

So, it looks like Panasonic really is still in the small camera game according to the m43 rumors interview. Heck if the small camera is the right one I might retire my Gx85 (although it's loving the 12-35 that now "it's lens" after getting the 8-18/12-60 for the bigger cameras. I think the best move for Olympus right now to make a FF body for wildlife but use L lenses (way less cost than build a lens inventory). Everytime I pick up my Gx85 I marvel how such an inexpensive camera still amazes me with it's still and video capabilities.....

I think it'd be smart, and economical, if Panasonic made two versions of the GX line - an updated m43 version and one for L-mount. Make it GX8 sized and they could likely use the same body and feature set, just changing out the mount and sensor/IBIS. But, I'm not an engineer, so not sure what challenges that could post (can't really think of any off the top of my head).

Either way, with all the users and lens available in m43 mount, bringing out a new GX with phase detection sounds like a winner.

A full frame Gx-8 would be awesome. And probably do-able technically.

He wouldn’t be drawn on whether this might result in a return of the GM series, but said we weren’t the only people expressing an interest in a small, capable camera. ‘The press in Japan ask the same thing,’ he said, ‘but for full-frame.

I think there's a pretty good chance.

That would be a game changer, an L-mount compact camera that's not the Sigma fp.

What if we saw a Panasonic/Leica collab for a FF inspired by the short lived Leica CL?

If they do, I hope there's a focus on analog controls . The Sigma I-series lenses would be a great help for such a project, as the aperture rings are something that the CL never had the access to, and imo it detracted from the overall allure of that camera. As mentioned elsewhere, a GX-8 style body, the S5 sensor/tech and a kit of the Sigma F/2 primes would be a very cool little setup indeed. Well, for me at least :D

Sign me up :D

Bugger that, bring me a E-M10 sized and weighted weatherproofed GX10 with 5 or more stops of IBIS, a 3.68M Oled tiltable LVF with 4/3 ratio and the 26MP sensor. :drinks:

The next Lumix M43 is likely a G100 Mark 2 or something in that price range to compete with the Sony ZV-1/1f and Canon variants. The creator market is likely the only segment seeing growth, and Panasonic needs to draw young creators and pull them into the ecosystem for future GH6/GH7 purchases.

A full-frame, GX-style body may yield incremental sales (S owners looking for a second body) but it's not likely to draw anyone from Sony, Canon, or Nikon.
