Software Anyone Still Use Photoshop Elements?

A long time ago, I had an old version of Photoshop Elements. I'd like to get access to Adobe Camera RAW 15.1, as it now supports the JPEG profiles on the Ricoh GRIII(x), but I'm not signing up for another year of Lightroom. Does anyone use the newer versions of Elements, and find value in it?

I've used Elements for a long while and have the 2021 version. I did use ACR but then started using DXO PL5 as my raw processor. I then edit further in Elements only because I'm familiar with it. I've been recommended Affinity Photo 2 which looks good vfm. I'd try a couple of free downloads and see if any suit.

I use PSE 23, just recently upgraded it, as I am nearing retirement, and trying to do some future proofing.

I use LR standalone 6 something for RAW conversion, and DxO PL6 for RAW conversion of Olympus M5 Mk3 files, as my old version of LR doesn't support that camera.

I then take the files to PSE, generally don't do much. Maybe an auto fix ..... if any cloning is needed, or spot sharpening, this is where I do it.

I am pleased with it for what I do.

I jumped ships from Elements to Affinity Photo a few years ago and didn't regret it. The business model is very straightforward - you just buy a licence for about £60 (and watch out for regular reductions from that) and off you go. Free updates come along quite regularly and the only time I had to pay again was when they did a major update from V1 to V2, and that was generously discounted too. And as you say, you can download a trial version first to see how you like it.

I sometimes struggle a bit to make Affinity do what I want it to do, but that's probably because I've never taken the time and trouble to sit through all the online tutorials and learn the thing properly. That's my fault as the tutorial videos I've seen have been very good.

I need very little of what Elements does, I just need the up-to-date version of Adobe Camera Raw, and unless I am mistaken, the only way to do that is to use one of their up-to-date products. Elements is possibly the last non-subscription product for photos. Also Lightroom wants a year-long subscription, with steep penalties if you try to break the contract

I actually costed the Adobe photography subscription package against my CS6 and CS5 costs.

The subscription package is actually a LOT cheaper over (say) a five year period.

I cannot speak for Lightroom, as I've never gotten along with it.

Never used Elements, as it can only handle aRGB, and I use ProPhotoRGB 16 bit. Originally, Elements only worked with 8 bit files too.
