So is Adobe Bridge. IMO it is the best free digital asset management (DAM) system available.

I still need to add such. At the moment it is a folder with 3+ years of raw photos, with nothing but time stamps to go by.

Keyword all the obvious ones with generic keywords.
Make sure left hand pane in Bridge is set to only show images with no keywords.
As you apply these low order keywords, these images disappear.
Once you have done this, you can then call up each group and apply higher order keywords. It's a mongrel of a job, but this makes it seem less overwhelming!
A low order keyword could be "people". Next level "family". Next level "Aunt Mary".
