Single in January - First resolution for 2012?

Sorry, I'll be away for 10 days in January without my computer so I'd be unable to post. Oddly enough, during that time i'll be taking lots of pictures.

Remember, you don't have to post them each day...just take the photo for that day and you may add them later. I'm pretty sure that's what our fearless leader Mark said. So if you want to, I think it could still work. All that said, no pressure!;)

I like this idea...

I'm in. Can I declare GRDIII? I intend to shoot it only on HiBW just to make it more challenging. In fact I may just stand on one leg while taking every shot... :)

So we're supposed to take a Single photo each day of 2012 with a different camera?

I could do that, but it would tale 24 years to finish all of the rols of film. I would be 78.

BBW's right. No requirement to post each day, just take a photo every day. Some of the best submissions from past "Single in..." challenges have been from film cameras - so by virtue of the format uploaded many images a few times during the month. Man, was it worth the wait!

So be glad to have you on-board. Can I ask your weapon of choice?

Right, I'm in, there won't be too many insects to distract me in January so it's a G1 and Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6 Super Wide-Heliar (OMG I must be mad, but need something of a kick in a tender region). I only hope there aren't too many wet days, or cold ones for that matter.

BB, what have you gone and made me do?

Barrie

Still not too late for any folks still keen just let us know here :2thumbs:

Just noticed some interesting stats drawn from this list of 20 confirmed cameras:
  • 25% Ricohs (5/20)
  • 20% Fuji (4/20)
  • 20% mu43 (4/20)
  • ...and just the 1 NEX and 1 Leica

Notable no-shows

Ok, I'll join in with a brand new S95, and will use the 35mm setting using the front ring. Just bought this and an sx230 for my wife. This will give me a good reason to use, and learn the new pocket cam. It is replacing my old Canon s400 that I've been using since 2003.

Since I plan on having it with me every day, I think this will be easier than trying to use the XZ-1 or the Canon G10.

Good choice Otto and great to heave you on-board.

I should take this opportunity to remind folks that if you choose a zoom lens then there is no requirement to stick with a single focal length. Of course, if you would like to add this dimension to your challenge, then please do so by all means.

The challenge here is to stick with one piece of kit and shoot every day for a month. If you're stubborn enough to keep buying primes - as is my personal failing - then you are stuck at one field of view and will need to show how you think on your feet. But those who have a more metered (and some might say "sensible") approach then please feel free to show-off the versatility of your single lens. Might come in handy for anyone looking for a new camera or second, travel or back-up gear.

... less a personal failing than an admirable character trait, redolent of good taste and fine discernment ...
Thanks Paul. That's what I'd like to portray publicly, but fear the veneer is thin and betrays, more privately, my innate sense of photo snobbery ;)

Having made that confession, I do like the training that comes with primes. It's also what I most enjoy about this type of challenge. After a month of concerted shooting with the one lens, you start to see and appreciate the world through that field of view. That's very handy once you're comfortable in it....and have the ability to change your perspective in line with your other lenses, of course.

This is EXACTLY why I decided to choose the 50mm lens. I don't really 'get' this focal length (frankly speaking, I'm a wide-angle junkie, I will take 24mm over 100mm any day of the week) and I hope to improve my relationship with it through this challenge.

Are small DSLRs allowed in this challenge? I was contemplating the XZ, which I do love, but right now am having a renewed love affair with the K-5, and would choose to use my 37 year old MC Rokkor lens with it. If not, I will commit to the XZ-1. I don't mind either way.

I'm in. Nex 5-N with Sony Zeiss 24mm 1.8 Not sure my output will be up to the potential of this lens, but I guess that's what this exercise is all about.
