How do you carry?

I wanted to discuss how people prefer to carry their cameras.

I just recently bought a screw-in connector similar to the solid one shown here.

It attaches to my strap like this.

And I carry it like this, (taken with my Mother's supperzoom).

So how do you carry your camera?

That's a basic sling strap arrangement. When I use a strap, I carry it exactly the same way, although I use the less intensive hardware that came with the Luma Loopit version of the sling. Most of the time I carry most of my cameras with a wrist strap, but when I'm taking a large-ish setup out I'll stick it on the sling strap and carry it exactly like you do, except I sling it over my left shoulder and have the camera down by my right hand so I can bring it up and shoot very quickly, with one hand sometimes.

variety

Whoa, that would make me nervous. Does it swing around?

I tend to just hold the camera in my hand or sometimes use a shoulder strap with detachable clips.

A lot of variety so far. I tried the wrist strap carry, however it was not for me. The biggest issue was what to do when not taking a picture.

I like to carry this way. There is very little swing or movement with a descent sized lens attached. I don't think a small prime would not work well at all.

The way I have the strap attached it is a simply movement to release the camera and then return it to the strap. Thus I have it secured when not shooting, with the flexibility of escaping the strap when needed in just a moment.

I always use a neck strap, and when the camera is not around my neck I hold it like this with the strap looped around my finger. If you lose control of the grip, squeezing your fingers together and using the friction in the strap will stop the camera from falling. I started doing this for extra security when holding a DSLR, and I still do the same for smaller cameras like m4/3.

Great timing for this thread, as I am quickly tiring (now bordering on hating) my GF1 boxed strap. I am still undecided between the wrist, neck and sling options, so am watching this thread keenly.

Hmmm, now have it got the same Ray? If so, I loved your insanely long and detailed review of sling straps over at mu43.com. And it's mainly your fault that I'm thinking seriously down the sling lines. Thoroughly recommend the read if you're contemplating the same.

I too went through several versions until I am now happy.

I still haven't found the perfect solution for my E-P3 or GXR. I would like something that is adaptable from wrist to bandolier-style.. a couple things I have found out there that are interesting, but all seem to be designed for heavier DSLRs. Currently just using a Gordy wrist strap on my E-P3 and a OP/TECH wrist on my GXR.

I did just see this video today on Luma Labs' upcoming Cinch strap. It does look interesting... would be great if they made a half width version for us serious compact shooters:

Seen those and they are great setups. My problem is that I don't always want to look like a photographer.

However if I am going to be out and about all day say on a hike or at a fair I will go with one of these two setups, (forgive the cell phone shots):

I like the cinch up feature!

Wrist strap on the camera and small Tamrac nylon or off brand leather bag

I do much the same - when just carrying a single body and lens. I have a 13 dollar small shoulder bag which I've customized with a better shoulder strap.

The sling strap only comes out when I know I'll be shooting all day long... I took the same hardware and made a very simple strap - very luma loopish no doubt. Mostly I prefer the bag, because it can also fit a wallet and my phone too.

Sounds like it works for you. My issue is that I hate dealing with the strap when I am shooting. Thus I like that mine disconnects quickly.

DSLR or larger SLRs are on a Black Rapid strap. Rangefinders were on a Sun Sniper smaller scale and compacts on a wrist. I'm somewhat neurotic about keeping things strapped to me fearing dropping or theft.

Love the looks of this Luma Cinch Kyle. Thanks for posting mate. I fear it won;t be released in Australia until 2013

Hope Lu.ma can keep these on the market without being bullied by BlackRapid.....again!!!!

All of my serious compacts are on A&A cloth straps, the bigger ones;X100 and M4/3 also get a Gordy wrist strap, the GRDs Ricoh wrist strap, I do not like slings at all, I much prefer to keep my camera in my hand trough a wrapped neck strap or wrist strap. There just too much bouncing and chance of banging into things with a sling for me. I do use a Gordy sling for my handheld Garmin, but it is armored
