Pentax How do you like your Pentax K-5? And please show us some of your photos!

I'm there too with my constant going back and forth on whether or not to sell my K-5. It's bulkier than I care to carry with me, and it gets left behind in the gear drawer ... :(
Keep it. You know as soon as its gone, you'll absolutely need to have it for something (even if you don't). The only thing that's a temptation for me from time to time is to downgrade (so to speak) to a K-r, which I found I handled a lot better than I currently do the K-5. The lighter weight was also good, for me.

Decisions, decisions.

Well, I've decided... I'm definitely keeping the K-5. I've decided it doesnt matter a damn whether I use it all the time, or every day, I enjoy it. The K-r might be lighter but does it matter that much? Actually, not. If ever it comes down to having to sell cameras because of financial considerations, as opposed to guilt because I think I have too many, the X100, GRD3 and F550 will be sold long before the K-5.

I posted a shot of Thomas William in the kitty thread, but here he is again, this time in colour. K-5 and kit WR 18-55 lens, at 42mm.

I like my K-5 very much... I've been shooting Pentax since 2007. My K10D is by no means relegated to the past... some of my better architecture photos came out of that camera.

I have not really shot my best since I got the K5... no excuses really, just a matter of time (and lack thereof)... but here are a few I at least don't mind sharing... these encompass my three loves - Landscape, Architecture, and People.

C&C cheerfully accepted of course!

Hey woof, welcome to the forums and I really like number 1 and 3, they both look so serene and I like the colours. I also like how 3d your photos look, they have a good depth to them which I'm trying to get out of my photos at the moment :) (hope that makes sense! lol)

woof, thank you so much for sharing all of these pictures. There's something extra that's added to a person's "online" self in a photo forum when one has a chance to see some of their pictures. I guess that's an obvious remark, but a true one. You've got great colors and images...beautiful and that one of your son, I think, looking through the circle is fun - but my heart, like Karen's belongs to your 4th with the blues and his gaze up to the moon...and the softness of the sea... Truly beautiful.

Thanks... very kind. You hit my motivation dead on... serenity... Thanks for the kind words and welcome! I really appreciate it Vince...

Thank you. I agree with both of you. "Moon Cradle" is my favorite too. For me there is a lot of emotional content and I am never quite sure how others view such things. Really nice to know it works at some level. The sea is Lake Champlain, Vermont side. Long exposure did much to smooth the water, but also contributed to some flaws... I am always happy to post photos... I've learned a lot from the comments I have gotten in past. I am sometimes a bit shy about critiquing others - don't much feel qualified - but if I can help I will comment...

Hi Woof
My favourite is the 4th one of the boy gazing up to the sky. I also really like the Hogwarts feel of the last two.

Thanks very much. Decidedly my favorite too.

Hogwarts? That's great. Perfect really. Those two are of Yale University, Sterling Library... a corridor known as Cloisters. Hogwarts fits actually. The carvings are all of students eating, drinking, smoking...doing anything but studying. It is really quite whimsical and fun given the otherwise relatively classic gothic treatment. I should probably do a series on the statues/carvings of Yale...

Thanks all of you for the warm welcome and kind comments. I look forward to contributing more and to seeing more of your work...

More from me. I really was starting to feel guilty about not using the K-5, especially since I only just bought a 55-300 zoom (all I could afford) and had not even used it except once. These were from late afternoon in my own back yard. Theres a shrub that lives at the bottom of the garden and I haven't the faintest notion what it is, but its photogenic at certain times of the year (IMO of course). I think I may well go after these again tomorrow, but with a tripod. I'm gobsmacked at how difficult I am finding it to keep the long lens steady, when its fully extended. I think it actually extends further than the Tamron 70-300 I used to have.... ah well... onward!

All shots are cropped down by about 50% from the originals.

and a black and white version (SEP of course)

Same shrub, different angle, and no flower (its going to emerge from that podlike thingy at front.)

Wonderful photos!

I just bought a K-5 and then the 55-300 separately. Trying it out this weekend, I took a shot at full telephoto of Chester. The shadow was severe, and yet I simply processed the JPG by lightening the shadows, adding some sharpening, and a little exposure, and the photo looks decent. The photo's nothing special except that I am impressed by the camera's capability to deal with the shadow.

Well, Armando, you succeeded, that leaf is such a brilliant colour. That FA35/2 is pretty nice, too. I just missed being able to get one from a HK distributor last year, ended up with the DA instead.

Thanks Sue! How do you like the DA15? I had one for two weeks that was soft no matter what. Pentax apparently has QC issues with that lens, so I read. I was bummed given that it's a Ltd lens.
