Olympus OM-D E-M5 Officially Announced

Upset now that it seems that metering can't be assigned to ANY of the five FN customizable buttons.

Must some technical limitation, can't see a reason. You will be seeing a firmware patch soon after its release and hopefuly otherwise, you will get it right under the Q.Menu. Thankfully its touch screen now

Size matters!

that size comparison did it for me! wow, just wow!

Must admit I found it hard to visualise the size even knowing it was basically same as my E-P3 until saw those two photos. I think we are so conditioned to a DSLR shape being DSLR sized that this demands a bit of a paradigm shift!

hmm.
I realise I am out of step on this, but frankly it looks like an ugly lump to me, especially that VF tower (you can hardly call it just a "hump") ... the specs are fine, but then specs always are ... but if I'm going to shell out for a camera, I'll want something that cries out to be picked up and used, and this simply doesn't ...

Truely, if its ugly then its not for you.

The VF tower actually looks pretty to me, even though I dont use EVFs, the tilt-LCD is all I want. However the tower helps raising the flash and making a better EVF, it also gives me an impression that the VF is a big priority to this cam, just like I prefer the look of D700 and other FF cameras over pro body APSCs like D300, 40D etc!

Again something very subjective.

IMO, it's Oly thinking that it knows better than the user. Just like in the Pens, with Oly not allowing ISO to be reassigned to one of the top FN buttons, and yet, exposure compensation is assignable to all five FN buttons.

Yes, we can always use the super control menu, BUT there's no logical reason for Oly to allow certain functions while prohibiting others from being assigned to the FN buttons.

how much is this mirrorless DSLR (and it's lens), going to cost?

try Nikon, Pentax, (and I hate to stay this, Canon), first ............ just a thought

Thanks! That preview pretty much confirms that, apart from some minor points, this is the kind of CSC I've been hoping to see. I love how small it is, and how much control customisation it offers; you can make this a seriously quick camera to operate! Unless a weatherproof EX1 / LX5 / XZ1 comes along, I might just have to buy one of these OM-D's some day when I have the money!

And wow, that silver version is pretty! In my opinion, even prettier than the Fuji X100...

Amin which is prefered Amazon or B&H
Black body for me :)

The announced Olympus OM-D is exactly the camera I have always dreamed of. It looks like Olympus has designed a camera especially for me. I will buy the black version.

I just wish wish wish that damn hump were smaller ... if they're going to make it look like an OM, make it more like an OM-4 ...

Gotta be silver for me. Hoping eventually for a Pen version of this camera to use alongside my GH1 and replace my E-PL1 in a year or so.

Well, I am not sure about the color. I like both versions, but since I am used to photograph nature, I prefer having less reflective surfaces. I am lucky that there is enough time to decide.

I believe that was part of the reason why the old silver/chrome-nosed SLR lenses became all black. Luckily I rarely get close enough to worry about reflections. How do you feel about the different texture on the black and silver bodies? Part of the appeal of the silver body for me is the leather-like finish, very similar to the skin on my old E-P1.
