SiJ Book - Will you let us use your photos?

OK....I've added the latest names to the running list. We're closing in on 30.

Bill, you are correct that there will only be 2 on the inside of the book proper, but it seems like there is a movement afoot ( https://www.photographerslounge.org/f88/sij-book-front-back-cover-photo-search-6777/ ) to get 1 miniature from each participant for the front and another for the back, so we may very well want four total images if the "collage" idea gets accepted.

During the course of next week, we should get everything ironed out and I'll put out a note that details what we need exactly from everyone.

OK people, we have put out a call for your 2 cover photos (these are NOT the ones that will be featured inside the book). Keep in mind that there will be 27 or so images on the front and another 27 on back and this is a small book. So don't automatically grab your 3rd and 4th favorites......send ones that look great as thumbnails. Directions on where to send them on are on this thread....... https://www.photographerslounge.org/f88/sij-cover-we-need-your-photos-6841/ Add a post to the thread to let us know you've sent them, and I'll add a thanks to let you know they come through properly.

Wouter, your photos will be missed, however I realize this book is a very personal decision.

Luke, do you have a running list that you might post to let us all see who has decided to be involved?

I'll put one together at work today and post it this afternoon.

Also, I think I've got a good handle on laying out the book and a decent understanding of the Blurb book software and Bill has been kind enough to offer his knowledge and assistance in times of need, but the cover design and layout may be best served by someone with some layout skills. Do we have a volunteer for this task?

Also, we need a title for the book as long as we're discussing the cover.....this will need to be finalized.

Maybe just "Single in January 2012" ?

I also think a short foreward might be in order.....just a little something to explain what the whole idea was about so anyone who picks up the book understands what we were doing. So we're looking for a volunteer for that as well.

defektive has been added to the list. We now have 28 contributors. I'm not sure what you've read, but in synopsis, pick your 2 best (or favorite) and set those aside for a second. We'll ask you for those shortly. But we're starting to work on the cover now and would like 2 images.....one for the front and one for the back cover. These needn't be your 3rd or 4th "best" shots. Pick them based on how you think they look as thumbnails. Simple and impactful work best, because there will be 28 tiny images on the cover or this 7 inch square cover. Read more here about where to send them, etc... https://www.photographerslounge.org/f88/sij-cover-we-need-your-photos-6841/index3.html

I'm starting to wonder if we should do 14 images on the front and another 14 on back. After we start working on the layout and see the final size......we may have to change our plans.

I'm thinking that there should only be one image from each contributor for the cover. That would allow a little larger image that can actually be seen, and would make the layout simpler. If there are too many, the covers may look too busy.

I have done this kind of layout for other projects, and the simpler the better.

Just some thoughts.

Otto, I think you are right. I'm sorry for the flip-flopping, but this is the first time I'm doing something like this.

If you've already sent your 2 images, please contact me to let me know which of the 2 you'd like for us to use. If you haven't yet sent your images for the cover....please just send one.

Oopst, I've been out of the loop on this for a while.

Luke, I'm in on this! I think I've said it before, but I kinda lost track.

So I need to send you two photos and select another photo (which could be from the two already selected) for use in the cover?

Hi Armanius.
Each participant (and I have you written down as participating) will have 2 photos featured inside the book. You may also select another one for inclusion on the cover and we're going with a DIFFERENT photo than the 2 in the book so we don't reveal half the book on the outside. For the cover shot, consider how the photo looks as a small photo. We are accepting the cover photos now. There is info in this thread about the what and where... https://www.photographerslounge.org/f88/sij-cover-we-need-your-photos-6841/index3.html but keep iin mind that we've switched it from two cover photos to one.

I'll start a new thread this afternoon to condense everything and let everyone know who is involved...and who still needs to submit their cover photo.

hmm this now starts to get complicated as if I were picking just one for the cover I wouldn't have picked either of the ones I've sent

Fee free to pick a totally different one. It takes very little effort for me to hit the delete button. Just let me know what you decide. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Doesn't seem too complicated. Submit two images that will be on the inside of the book. Submit one image that will be on one of the covers (front or back depending on the layout needs), and try to choose it for it's looks as a thumbnail. In other words, don't choose a cover shot that is too busy as it won't show up at a small size.
