I hate PC's!!!

1st of all after 4 years of perfect service my iMac decided to throw it's toys out the pram by having a failing hard drive, Can't afford to replace with another iMac so i bought a PC from a very reputable company with amazing reviews and now after a few months the ethernet connection on the motherboard has failed. This seems to be the conclusion after speaking to my broadband provider and the company who built the PC.

When i get round to changing my PC next time i'm getting another Mac!!!!!

Written from my little Asus ePad Transformer.

Don't get too cocky. I have both and I've had failures in both. Why not just put a new drive in the Mac? You don't actually think that Apple makes its own components except the case, do you? They're no more reliable than anything else of the same cost and price. Just don't buy HP. Worst computers ever, with a matching service level.

I feel your pain, but don't think it's necessarily manufacturer related. It's just unreliable tech sometimes. I use both PC and Mac, and hate them when they give me issues, and use them when they're without issues.

I had an iBook and my brother a MacBook Pro. Both broke down just after the warranty period expired. The MacBook Pro had several issues during the warranty period as well. After my iBook died, I got a Sony Vaio that still works without a hiccup, five years after purchase. My old HP desktop died just after the warranty period, the replacement HP keeps on ticking. My brother has an iMac and a MacBook that work without a flaw, many years after purchase.

Don't draw any conclusions from my little story. As I read on TOP: the plural of ancedote is not data.

My iMac hard drive failed at 3 years. I couldnt afford a new one but I had had the presence of mind to have a SuperDuper! clone of the drive and it just took over as the boot drive. When I was able to afford a new one (being as how it was outside the warranty period, I was up for the full cost) I simply took it to the local Mac guys, they put a new (bigger) drive in and I transferred the contents of the clone drive back to the new iMac drive. All good as new. Nver considered dumping the whole machine just because of a drive failure!

Oh my "I hate PC's!!!" I hope that is just a knee jerk reaction and not vitriolic emotion. :D

NOW , Put your hand on the monitor while embrace your computer and repeat after me, " Oh you beautiful think I love you with a passion … even if I have the hots for that sexy iMac with the slim down keyboard and racy OS."

I think I can only add my variation to this thread......I hate all computers. I had an iMac that crapped out 1 day after the warranty. I usually get 3-5 years out of my PCs. So now, I just buy whatever the best crappy $400 unit there is and figure I'll have to chuck it in 3 years. Spending more has never gotten my a better machine.

I am the opposite, I have owned about 8 fully maxed out Mac towers and 6 Macbook PROs, other than one hard drive and one mother board failure in one of the Mac Book Pros, mine have been trouble free, Almost all are still working for me or someone else.
While I have used them, I cannot see myself with a PC

My favorite computer is a Pentium Pro tower running a Tyan Motherboard with a 440FX chipset. Been using it for 14 years, no problems. Helps keep my code for embedded applications efficient.

Feel like Anakin Skywalker- that computer and I have been through a lot together. I keep two spares if anything goes out, but so far- no problems.

Chances are, it will long outlast any new Mac that you buy today.

Andy-- why couldn't you just replace the hard drive of your Mac. Is that not an option?

Couldn't replace the battery on my ipod either but we did. Just took it right apart rather than disposing and buying another. Ironically-- they had a recall on the batteries. I guess there was a melting problem. Since mine was already replaced I didn't bother to send it in. They would have sent me someone else's refurb in swap. My iBook had a display recall. I still have it but it is old and slow. Haven't had any pc recalls. I have had a bad hd after about 4 years so I just replaced it myself and this last one the mb so needed a new computer. It was a prebuilt but lasted six years. The one prior lasted over seven. By then you want to upgrade anyway.

Also, you can slip an ethernet card into your pc and bypass the mb ether if you have a slot, I believe. Kinda like my graphics card wasn't good enough for photo processing so I bypassed the mb card and installed/upgraded my own. Still in warranty then make the mfg do it.

I have had both systems, prefer the interface of mac but I have a pc budget.. sometimes less than a pc budget as my father helped me replace this last computer.

At any rate.. we love them when they work good and hate them remembering every little flaw when they don't. That's just tech.

I have not had many hardware issues with either, but find it takes more work to keep the WIN OS running smoothly. I would agree with earlier comments: if my drive went i would just replace it.

Like Sue, I'm a SuperDuper fan.

One time I had a computer catch on fire because the software I wrote overloaded the power supplies.

We replaced it with one that was much faster.

Well my PC is boxed up ready to be shipped back to the manufacturer so hopefully they can fix it quickly. I did not get the mac fixed as i wanted a bigger screen and more RAM. I may be getting my Mac back from my friend who was going to have a go at replacing the hard drive. \i'm not sure he has touched it yet!

Ah... you realize Macs are now made by the same people that make PCs right? In fact, the manfacturer that makes Macs make bottom of the barrel PC components.

I've had Apple products since th Apple ][. Most have failed for the same reason. Cold solder joints. My Lisa died for another reason. The Apple suicide device kicked in as planned and killed it. I've also have had PC products since the beginning. Other than the one that fried when there was a voltage spike when a transformer down the street blew, every single one is still working. I still use my original PC keyboard. Those early IBM keyboards are the best keyboards ever made.

Personal anecdotes are one thing. Here are some statistics.

"On average, 22% of all MacBook and MacBook Pro computers in the survey required repair"

MacBook/MacBook Pro Reliability

The industry average is 5%. Historically, Macs are 4 times more unrealiable than PCs.

I once had an iMac that did an infinite loupe in 32.3 seconds.

some of the computer generated animation that I did in the late 80s took one month of CPU time on the VAX 11/780. Several racks of equipment.

Now, I get impatient when processing 200GBytes of data takes more than an hour.

How these little weenee computers have spoiled us.

Um, hardly a scientific survey.

Anyway, use what works for you, I say.
