Fuji Travelling lighter today, physically and mentally.

The NEX however left me cold at the end of the day, it did not inspire. Feeling better now...

This struck a chord with me: my exact feelings about my NEX 5N. Images that just don't excite, colours which are dull. Sticking with my GF1 20mm for now. Every time I take a walk with it, I am happy. The NEX 5N is for sale.

Bill, your photo of the chargers brought to mind what I've had to do: I bought a Brother label maker (white plastic tape, black letters) and have affixed a label to every charger and almost every battery. Has made life ever so slightly more organized. Now I know I'll be heading into the sunset when I have to put labels on the cameras as well...

Herein illustrates the problem:

One logical conclusion is that I need to have a used camera sale... I keep hoping my children would get interested in the hobby, but they're pretty happy with their iPhones, Hipstamatic, etc.

Lili, I think it was you who said a long time ago that you used to have a Canon G10, but when you started to use an Olympus E420 with the 25/2.8 you stopped using the Canon. Was that you? What was your camera journey after that?

Ah, no not me i fear. I have never used any Canon. Nothing wrong them them, my preference was for Fuji and Ricoh in Compacts. I was considering one but went with the XZ-1. I adore my XZ-1's results but that Huge Lens leaves little room for holding onto it even with the Franiec Grip so I have been carrying my GRD a lot again.

As to my Compact Journey. I stated digital with a Coolpix, S5 in 2006, then got a Fuji S5200. I got F31FD, then I went with Ricoh GRD.
That was a revelation. I played with number of other cameras but the GRD became an extension of me till it died :(
I went 4/3 and m4/3 as well as several Fuji F Series. I have come Full Circle though, back to the GRD, the ''3" in this case.
I love the versatility of the super zooms but find happiness within the 'restrictions' of Prime Lenses.
I adore traveling light and fast with the smaller camera, esp with the Superb UI and IQ of the Ricoh.

So if I were to choose my top three favorites from the array I pictured, it would likely be:

Olympus E-PM1
Fujifilm X-10
Ricoh GRD III

Guess I'm into a "small is good" period of my life...(bridging back to title of this thread)

About time for a CLEARANCE sale!!!???

A resounding "YES". I've actually embarrassed myself with that photo of the chargers. Time to search for the boxes and get'em ready to move out. No regrets on most of the original purchases, but keeping them around is really indefensible.

Armando - In that case I'd feel compelled to take another photo with ALL my chargers!:D

Nah...won't do it....

You already have me beat hands down with the current photo! I only have 7 chargers. Problem is that most of those chargers have those annoying cords too ... I don't know why manufacturers insist in making the chargers with cords. I guess there's probably some engineering reason that I'm oblivious too.

I've worked around the cord issue, albeit not as cheaply as I'd like:

Amazon.com: Conntek 30001 Travler Male Plug Adapter U.S. Male Plug To Laptop/Power Adatper IEC C7 Female Connector: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Saves on manufacturing and logistical costs; one charger body for all destinations, cords specific to electrical outlet standards in various regions.

I was really disappointed to find that the charger for my new X10 has an integral plug. I keep a European two pin plug and cable for travelling and it won't fit - I'll have to carry an adaptor. Plus have you ever tried to fit an integral plug charger into a wall socket that's close to the floor, or worst of all in a floor trap? Grrr...!

That's another important aspect of the cord vs. integral plug. I'd be happy with a cord if it were shorter; most of the time I'm using an outlet on a desktop lamp in a hotel. No luck finding a short cord with the figure-eight end...

While it's a very nice sentiment, I don't think that the literal clear out of the gear and the implied clear out of the mind is the golden ticket for everyone. It is however very easy to go too far in the other direction and have too much choice available.

When you have to lay camera gear out on the bed and go through a long and drawn out selection process of what to take when you leave the house, THAT is when you have too many cameras (been there).

When you get back to the house carrying a bunch of gear that went unused, THAT is when you have too many cameras (done that).

If it's easy to choose what gear to take and when, and when every or almost every piece of gear comes back a little bit more worn out than when it left, THAT is when you are in sync with your gear (getting there).

If the choice of what gear not to take with you is the same every time, THAT is when you are a hoarder (meekly raises hand).

Bottom line: I don't feel that being a camera polygamist is a creative barrier in the field. The guilt is looking at the gear that nearly always gets left behind. THAT is what I'm trying to work on at the moment.
