I've never owned a camera other than black or silver and black, but I must say that the 2 additional color choices in North America for the Pentax are both equally lovely. So assume for a moment that you were buying the camera....which would you choose.......

you can see more photos of it and read a hands-on review here....... Pentax K-30 Camera - Hands-On Preview

so what'll it be...... black, blue or white?

I always go with the black, thinking that it is more stealthy, but someone here or mu-43 made the point that a colorful camera actually looks more unassuming (i.e., more casual/consumer, less pro). Hmmmm.... okay, I'm voting for stormtrooper white/black!

Wait, outside of cosmetics, wouldn't there be some advantage for a white camera, keeping the camera temperature down in the summer...

Kyle, when I see black DSLR, I figure it's either a nosy photographer or a soccer mom.......50/50. Colored camera = n00b.....definitely less pro....which explains my leanings.....LOL.

:D I need something is blaze orange then!

Blue and black make a great color combination - and not just for bruises. Seriously, I love the blue and black combination, though I voted for all black. I like to be unobtrusive. Now silver and black would really be the ticket for me.

So you're buying a new camera??

I voted white. I just like the stormtrooper look. Do you remember all the colors that were available in Japan for the Kx? Pentax has a playful side sometimes, as in :
Pentax gets colorful with Korejanai K-x D-SLR - Image 1 of 3

Love it! If they did something similar, but Star Wars classic stormtrooper, I would order right away. It would be great, just for the looks of disdain that you would get from the big DSLR crowd.

I immediately fell for the blue, then reason took over and I almost committed to the black kit with the WR 18-135 (saves you around $180 and the colored ones aren't being offered in a kit). Then I started digging the white. I'm still up in the air, but leaning towards white.

The WR lenses are really useful. I didn't get the 18-135, decided on the duo 18-55/50-200 and really, i haven't been disappointed with them. Of course they aren't as good as primes and maybe not even as good as some other zooms (and not having constant aperture is a bit of a pest sometimes... but not as often as I expected). WR is handy. So is DA* (saving for a 55 f/1.4)

I believe that the DA35 f/2.4 comes in colours and I hear that the new 50 mm will, as well. But I wouldnt want blue, in those. White.. absolutely.

Thanks for your input Sue. I'm hoping to keep it simple with the lenses. Which is one of the reasons I'd lean towards the 18-135 instead of getting the other 2. I would expect that lens would be on the camera 80-90% of the time. I'd usually use my X100 in place of a prime lens.

Yeah, thats why I haven't bought a DA21, because I have the X100 to fill that gap. The conventional wisdom is that the 18-135 is a better lens than the 18-55/50-200 combo. I like the additional reach though...

I can appreciate the extra reach. I may keep my m4/3 kit for when I really need reach....or more likely just a body and the 100-300. It'll be like a dedicated tele single lens set-up. The Pentax will be the all-rounder and action camera and the X100 for one I'm more leisurely shooting or just need a compact to slip under the radar.

Like you said before, why buy a WR camera w/o a WR lens.

Also, voting went pretty heavy for the black, so maybe the smart decision for resale value. :2thumbs:
