Well, I'm not sure how I could over look this:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Hands-on Preview: Digital Photography Review

Constant f2.8 throughout the zoom range, from 28mm to 600mm(35mm eq). Finally. My first serious compact and digital camera was a panasonic FZ3. I loved the constant f2.8 for the 12x lens that it had. Over the years, I don't understand the need for extremely long zooms with slow telephoto end and poor(compromised) lens quality. I may just have to pick up one of these in the future. I hope the lens is as sharp as my old FZ3 lens was.

yeah, that's really impressive. Well done Panasonic!
The only thing I always wonder about with constant aperture lenses, is whether they are limiting themselves at the shorter focal lengths just so it has a constant aperture - wouldn't it be possible to "set the aperture free" which would result in, for instance, f2.0 at wide angle?

I agree. I suppose it depends on the lens design. I thought about the same with the new panny 12-35mm lens for mFT. One of the issues you run into though is vignetting at the wide end when opened up.

true, but even so, we're old and wise enough to make those kind of decisions for ourselves, aren't we? If the hardware allows it, why disable something like that?

I don't think we'll see a superzoom ala FZ50 with a 1/1.7" sensor again from panasonic. I think Fuji has a few, though.

Fuji uses the 1/2" sensor on its HS series and the 2/3" sensor from the X10 on the X-S1.
The latter is camera I rather lust after having missed out on the S100FS and S200EXR

+1. I'm putting my small sensor cams up on gumtree next week, along with a few other things (but I'm working towards that iPhone 5 or whatever it will be called)... Then after taht (next year) maybe,... Waiting to see what Photokina produces, really.

I have not gone so far as that, but I do use my PEN's more these days...unless I want reach then the little Fuji's do play well.
The little 1/2" BSI CMOS sensor they use is actually quite good. my Pic of Fred Naps was at ISO 400!
Still if I could guarantee getting an Orbless X-S1....

I don't think I realised there were orb issues with the XS-1. I agree, I don't want orbs. I do too much shooting around the early morning/evening when one is likely to get them. Oh well, no bridge camera needed really. I don't pick up the FZ100 really at all. I've had it for maybe 18 months and probably shot less than 100 with it. The little Fuji I've used more, but the Panny, nope. Might have to make it available to US ppl as well, I actually bought it from B&H, and it has the US charger. I havent been able to get one for AU. Panasonic AU is VERY cagey about how to get one.
