Hi

I'm off to London and Scotland for a couple of weeks in mid September and would love some insider tips on places to go and 'dos and don'ts' for shooting on the streets.

Any general advice would be much appreciated, and any input on specific places offering great views or experiences would be awesome.

I'll also be driving through Scotland for 4 days (renting a car from Manchester) up to Inverness and back to Glasgow. Since this is my first visit there, are there any 'must' shooting opportunities on the way that I should not give a miss?

Thanks for your inputs in advance!

Not so much a must shoot, as a must visit. You cannot go to Inverness and not visit Culloden. I would suggest giving the visitor centre a miss and go straight out to the battle field and spend several hours simply wandering the moor and take in what occurred on 16/04/1746. This was a battle that changed the entire way of the political and social culture of the clan system. It is truly an amazing place to spend time.

The other places that are lovely to photograph if you get the opportunity are Glencoe and Rannoch Moore. But given you only have a few days, it might be difficult to fit in. I have been to Scotland twice, bth times for a four week period and dont feel I have even begun to experience what the country has to offer.

Thanks Jenna! Much appreciated. It's a whirlwind trip where I will be running around like a headless chicken, no doubts about that. But I'm hoping it will be a good introduction to a place I would keep going back to.

I've only had one problem while in London... I was in Camden market and there are Punks close the the subway exit, I took a shot, a pretty nice one I thought, he came over me and claimed 10 pounds for the picture, I refused and showed him that I deleted the picture, he was abashed and I later regretted to not have given him the money, the shot was really good...

Otherwise no problems :)

I've lived in Scotland all my life and I'd say you really should spend some time in Glasgow itself. It's my home city so I'm biased but once you get to know it it has wonderful architecture, beautiful parks, world-class art collections, fantastic shopping and friendly, warm people. There are Flickr groups called "Anything Goes Glasgow" and "Glasgow Photographers" which might inspire you.

Hi Rajiv
I have pm'd you my cell phone number. Give me a call when coming to London. If I am available i can show you around for some street stuff, especially the East End Bangla Town (vibrant bengali community) and the funky parts of west London. If you are up for it, maybe a night scape shoot. Any idea where you will be Staying?

Peter

Hey Peter, thanks a bunch for your generous offer! I have pm'd back with details of where I'm staying. It would be great to "walk the streets" (for want of a better expression) with a fellow enthusiast. - Rajiv

Try recovering the photo with a recovery software.

Cheers, Macjim.

Hehehe punks at Camden Market are about as dangerous as squirrels, and will have had their photograph taken thousands of times (and without payment) ... but you were probably not to know that of course

I wasn't afraid from him but I wouldn't have the nerve to keep a picture from someone who didn't want to be taken.

But he'd have been perfectly happy to take the money ... I think he simply saw a commercial opportunity, Kian, and hoped to take advantage of a stranger
