Fuji According to Ken, the "old" X-Pro1 is obsolete and the Leica M9 is a "pig"...

Ken is a true font of wisdom. He's right up there with Thom Hogan and Steve Huff.......... I loved the part about the diopter. Actually his reviews of older Nikon lenses aren't bad. Or I guess I should say I've used links to them from his site to sell lenses in the past so I suppose I owe him one. I'm just not sure why these guys are so popular. I've stopped going to all these sites because their reviews seem so knee jerk. This one may be a new first since the camera is still a couple months away from being released. Why don't the really good photographers write these kind of blogs? I would love to see someone William Eggleston or Moriyama or Edward Burtynsky write a camera review.

That said I am buying an XE......sigh.............. I'm hoping this will maybe force me to finally part with the rest of the Nikon gear I never use. It's going to have be either that or another trip to the emergency vet.

At the risk of sounding facetious, I suspect that the best photogs are doing photography rather than talking about it. We seem to be in an era of mighty winds, no matter the subject on the worldy wide interweb! lol

I've read many comments on camera forums (including this one!) by individuals pronouncing a camera that they have never seen or handled as "awesome" - or of course, "crap" - why shouldn't Ken Rockwell do so and get paid for it?

Come to think of it, that may be why people get so up-in-arms about him - income-envy :D

I don't mind Hogan so much. I often disagree with him, but I find he generally reasons his way to a position. Plus, he actually makes some decent photographs.

Huff is a classic headline traffic grabber. Good for him I suppose. For me though, he is no voice of authority. I would also say that I find his use of text shorthand (such as IMO) within posts really sad.

On the other hand, these guys can be good for entertainment, and are easily avoided.

LoL, Ken is silly. It is so strange that he always promotes things that give him affiliate credit (after telling you how much better it is than the last camera he told you to buy and also got credit on).

I actually like Thom Hogan's reviews... they seem to be fairly balanced. He is accused of being a Nikon fanboy, but man has he been beating the war drums over the D800 left focus issue.

PDH, I do regular product reviews about airguns on a weekly blog (and when I offer an opinion of a product, it's because I have actually used it). I am truly astonished at the individuals on various forums who will hold strong -- to the death and call your mother bad names -- opinions about airguns that they have never shot nor handled.

Isn't holding an opinion based on no real facts called something like prejudice? I'm probably just old fashioned.

I used to read Ken's posts. I actually read this review because the link was posted here. He gave no indication that he has worked with the Fuji X-E1 but he says it works better than the M9. This is why I don't read him anymore. His posts are filled with hyperbole and have a desperate tone to them. It's all about getting people to buy things via his links. I wish you well, Ken, but your site isn't for me.

I think Thom Hogan makes a lot of sense most of the time, Steve Huff has a style I don't particularly care for but I don't find him offensive or anything. Rockwell is just such an utter idiot that I refuse to click on his website and give him more traffic, I just ignore him and everything he says.

LoL, Ken is silly.

I don't think so. In my opinion he isn't less clever than Thom Hogen, Steve Huff, LLoyd Chambers and all the other gurus on the web. By the way, read his About page. He is very honest in what he is doing and he can live by doing that. One has to like his humor, though.

I don't consider this as the kind of writing I want to read here.

I'm sorry but when you have a readership as large as Ken's, and when there're so many people who think your opinion is valuable, and you undoubtedly make a considerable amount of money due to people clicking your sponsored links in your reviews, you simply shouldn't be saying the ridiculous stuff he does (and trust me, he REALLY does say ridiculous stuff). You're doing people a disservice if you encourage them to buy something for the wrong reasons, and to profit from that financially is just wrong. And no, saying something like this
I enjoy making things up for fun
on your "about" page does not make it any more acceptable, it just proves why people should just ignore him.

[edit] having said that, I agree that calling someone an utter idiot is not the best way to make a point, because it disqualifies someone entirely without saying why. So let me rephrase that and say I strongly feel that Rockwell is a person behaving wrongly for the reasons I mentioned above.
