Micro 4/3 Starting to get excited about m43

Looks like m43 could churn out some gear that would make it very tempting for me to switch over.

If the new E-PM ends up having the E-M5 sensor, and the 17mm f1.8 rumor proves true ((FT5) 17mm f/1.8 is a high quality lens. Now only a prototype. | 43 Rumors) I could easily see myself with the following 3 lens kit in the future.

New E-PM body
17mm f1.8 for general use
45mm f1.8 for light tele/portrait work
Rokinon fisheye 7.5mm for ultrawide fun

Even if the 17mm f1.8 proves to be a dud or too expensive there's still the Sigma 19mm f2.8, the old Oly 17mm f2.8 or the Pana 20 f1.7, so I guess I'm mostly excited about the E-M5 sensor in a small body :)

For a small lightweight set up you have hit the nail on the head!!

I always liked the 17mm f2.8 as it was very sharp on my old G3 and the focal length was pretty much perfect for me. I now have the X100 so I'm sorted for 35mm equivalent! I'm tempted to get a PM1 used as they will be dirt cheap soon and I can but a couple really nice Voigtlander lenses to go on and have IS....sweeet!

I'll be interested to see the new Oly 17mm, but I love my old one so likely won't bother buying the new one. With the IQ of the new sensors, I don;t really need the extra low light gathering ability and for shallow DOF, I have other lenses. Small camera lovers can certainly rejoice at getting the E-M5 sensor in those dinky bodies......too small for me, but it's the sweet spot for many here.

No they don't. The IS mechanism takes up a LOT of space. It takes up ALL the space in the "hump". No room in the little cams for that. But they will still have the standard Oly IS that has worked fine with the other cameras.

I was excited to learn that the new E-PL5 will pretty much look like an E-P3 from the front and will just be adding a tilt screen on the back. Even if they are using the old IBIS, which I thought was still pretty good in the E-P2/3, I am really tempted to downgrade from the E-M5. I like the idea of having an in-built flash again (hoping that is the case) and I like having the option of going smaller, w/o viewfinder, on some occasions.

The 17/1.8 is interesting, but I really like the profile of the Panasonic 20/1.7. I am still using this lens a ton on my E-M5. I wish Panasonic would re-release the lens with fast/quiet focusing and weather-sealing (assume internally focusing would only add a bit of length).

I'm looking at the E-PL5 too, as a replacement for my GF1. I feel it's a nice combination of size and likely performance, and benefits from not trying to be DSLR-like. With a 14, 20, and 45 I'll be set.

Really nice to see that the Panny and Oly models continue to provide different choices; no complete overlap of styles and features. For those willing to go cross-brand, there seems to be something for everyone. I'm happy right now with my G5/GX1 combo, but always interested in what's new from the competition.

Every time I see that GX1 price dip, I am tempted mightily to buy.

I'd love to see the E-M5 sensor used in the upcoming Pens. It gives me another future option as a second m4/3 body and spreads some of the E-M5 goodness into a lower price bracket where more people can afford it.

The 17/1.8 sounds great as well. As nice a lens as it is, the Panny 20/1.7 doesn't focus all that quickly and sits almost too close to the 25mm to make it worthwhile carrying both and switching between the two.
