anyone up for another month-long Prompts Challenge?

sounds good Kyle....maybe an idea that is less specific, but still forces us to get out and shoot. The more restrictive it gets in regards to subject matter, the less people are inclined to join in.

Would something as vague as posting an original shot every day be enough? I'm not talking about raiding the vaults for old photos, but each day one awakes and has to shoot a shot...ANY shot and post before the day is out.

We could have a thread for each day. I could "lock" a thread 2 days after the day completes to keep from flooding the 'recent discussions' with these PAD threads.

any suggestions for or against or fine tuning anyone would suggest?

That would be pretty cool. I'm in.

I think this is definitely best to push it back to October and have it run for the month. This would have the added benefit of allowing film users to get their head start. Or maybe that whole "solution" doesn't sit well with the fillum users. I'm just thinking aloud here.

Of course, the film shooters could shoot film for whatever they like, but use a digital for one photo per day as well.

That seems fair, and the film users dont have to be lonely if they get a head start.

They don't get a 100% keeper ratio any more than digital shooters do so it's unlikely they will upload an entire roll at once.

I don't think I said anything about uploading a whole roll, but it did seem that it was the film people uploading in bulk, because they are not in a position to just do one a day and process the same day, nor does it make any sense to shoot a whole roll in a day just to get the one for the upload, which is why I made the suggestion.

I like Luke's notion of letting them get a head start, then they can scan what they like of their shots, and do daily uploads as they will have done the necessary work ahead of time, and will stay ahead for most of the challenge. a couple of photos a day if people get behind is fine, really, but when its 7 or 8 at once, I just happen to think thats over the top. It doesnt matter a bit when its a thread about a particular topic, we like seeing all those film shots, but when everyone is uploading daily to the same thread, its potentially a royal PITA for those watching and commenting.

BTW speaking of threads.. will there be a single thread for each day? Ie... 30 threads, each titled for the day it represents? That would immediately solve my prob with film, so I am suggesting it as a way of managing. The film shooters wouldnt need a head start, and they could shoot daily just like everyone else, and do their uploads as they process and scan. So I guess there would need to be a sub-forum created for the challenge itself. One thread for the rules/explanation of the challenge, and then threads created each new day. Those of us in the antipodes might be the thread starters, or perhaps Luke/whoever could create all 30 threads at once, at the beginning. Just an idea.

I think then, I would create a new set at flickr, for the "whatever its going to be called" challenge., and reference the shots there. That way too, using the forum instead of the gallery, means one would not be running out of gallery space too quickly.

A photo a day, total 30 for 30 days, post when you can [to allow for processing or film developing] but try not to flood the gallery all at once and any camera + lens, film or digital. Those wanting to use only one lens on one camera, go for it. Those wanting to mix it up, go for it. Just another get out and do it exercise, no pressure. That's my 2+ cents. Oh and Kyle you started this ;) If you want to do the guiding after Luke helps to set it up, I'll offer assistance if you need.

To quote myself :D and add in Sue's idea of a small sub forum with a post for each day I think would work if that is something Luke can set up for us. So then if twenty people participate, there should be no more than 20 photos on each day to look at. Those using film or not able to photograph, process and post every single day will still be able to go back and post on the date they took their photo and not require any kind of head start. As to wrapping up, posting can continue [you are on your honor to be posting and not still photographing] up to a week after to allow for schedules.

I'm all for the free form with personal additional rules if wanted. It's what I did in January. Next to single camera / lens, I added my own limitation of B&W only. Just to be less shy about shooting B&W. It worked for me.
-Yes

don't wish to feel limited to a single medium. Otherwise it becomes a "digital camera challenge" rather than one which is all about images.
-Yes

I'll participate in anything that gets collective approval, but personally am really interested in pinhole challenge.
Seriously.
-Yes

*I am shooting pinhole [actually zone plate] right now :)

Maybe to follow up to Kristen's excellent idea......there's no reason it can't be all things to all people.

it starts as a basic PAD.....30 photos in 30 days. People who WANT to limit themselves to a single focal length or a single can do so, and further we could submit a list of 30 "prompts" for those who like the treasure hunt aspect (and others could use them for inspiration when they're stumped)

I think that is an awesome idea, Luke!

excellent.

Now we just need a snappy title for the challenge ... I propose "Kyle And Kristen's Single 30 Day Prompts in September/October/November International Serious Compacts Scavenger Hunt Challenge 2012" which could be even more Compactly (see what I did there?) KAKS3DPiSONISCSHC2012

I was just trying to do what Luke was doing and help make it so everyone could participate comfortably. K&K suggests that it's ours but the idea belongs to ALL of us, so no KAKBLAHBLAHBLAH. Thank you. I'm sure someone can come up with a title [not Paul ] and then we can have our little octoberfest shoot.

It is very catchy, but I think that the screen printing (for the t-shirts) is charged per letter, so maybe we could shorten a bit?

...and then we can have our little octoberfest shoot.

Great idea, Kristen! I like a name based on Octoberfest (especially if it gives me an excuse to eat more preserved meat products and drink beer from extremely large steins).

While simultaneously shooting one handed! All that beer will make you more creative-- and probably generate some motion blur too :D
