Visiting Duxford with a friend and former colleague and we were both reminded of our old age when we saw FU hanging from the ceiling.

Employed by the then Board of Trade , we had both spent some time in the right hand seat of this de Havilland Dove during our training and were reminded how time flies by!
As a callow youth I'd flown in a large silver Handley Page Hastings like the one in the background - a lumbering piston transport with a 3000 mile range.
And then my wife and I went on our first package holiday in a de Havilland Comet 4 like the BOAC aircraft here ; even today I think that it was just as quiet and comfortable as a modern jet.

The G1X worked very well but the two of us left feeling like museum exhibits ourselves.

Duxford is a great place to visit, Nice pic and really high quality, How are you finding your G1X? - Regards Mike

I like the G1X for its superb IQ/telephoto lens and overall size but it doesn't appeal to me in the way that the Fujis X100 and X10 do.
It's the chunky body and chunky menu system that Canon have hobbled it with that would make me think twice before upgrading to a successor model.
Definitely worth a look if you're in the market for something "pocketable" with high IQ but it's a "try before you buy" sort of camera.

Hi thank you for the input, Yes i had a play at a large department store and it was chunky and solid, its the viewfinder bit that i am struggling with having used DSLRs for the last 18 months i find the viewfinder very important, Just fussy i suppose!
Cheers Mike

I know that the viewfinder is a bit basic and it's like going back to the 1960s.
It is usable though and you can pan fast moving objects with it.

I think that that is an accurate assessment. I'm in a bit of a love/hate relationship with the G1X now; not sure whether I want to stay or go.

P.S. That second shot is really cool!

Ahhhaa.. Its such a great place.. I want to go there.. Is there any other place instead of Duxford near London??

There is RAF Museum Hendon, I haven't been there yet but plan to sometime.
My local museum is Brooklands which is not up to Duxford but is a great day out.
Lastly the Imperial War Museum is a superb place to visit and photography is allowed in many areas and it is free entry.
