John Deere 450d LC
I have been looking at this in the daytime the last few days and thought it would be more interesting after dark.
Had time to take a walk last evening and it really just gets you thinking about carrying more stuff out in the mud.

Nicely exposed JH to get the stars in the blueish sky. Did you try a range of exposures?

Bill,
I did an exposure at 30 seconds and didn't like the results.
Too much movement in the stars, and general overexposure.
So, decide to look at 10 seconds.
Kind of like printing on the old days. Do a frame, check it out. Consider and apply changes.
Make more frames.
The hardest thing was getting the rockpile tripod not to collapse.

Really nice shot, I like the low angle for both giving you the opportunity to include the nighttime sky, and making the excavator look even larger than it is, like some huge industrial creature from outer space. Love it!

very good

the song "starry starry night" from Vincent by Don Maclean come to mind

Great shot!

The colour is nicely muted and the exposure of the sky is simply spot on! Those trails and stars just add to this image....as do the light across the bottom and off in the right corner.

Thanks for your kind words.
Shipping on the rockpile tripod would be a bit much.
Heather, you've got me on the Orion question.
Someone with knowledge could probably tell us.
I know I was looking east just after sunset in Illinois.
