@bilzmale It's pretty much the way I saw it, that's why I left it (mostly) that way and tried not to overdo shadow and highlight recovery in post. The diffraction effect in the clouds is also real, but wasn't visible with the naked eye because it was too bright in that region to check visually. I exposed (i.e. spot-metered, as I always do) for the upper edge of the cloud bank to limit (if not avoid) blown highlights but didn't use exposure correction in camera. Note that I don't use Lightroom or Photoshop (I'm a GNU/Linux guy), so a "Levels" tweak doesn't tell me anything, so my thinking may be way off ...
