My restrictions are, Olympus 17mm f1.8, aspect ratio 3:2, straight out of camera jpegs, absolutely no post processing of any kind. A real back street. Shot in P Mode, 1/80, f3.2 + base iso 200.
@MoonMind Thanks Matt, obviously that wasn't my only attempt at composing that shot(!), but let's just say it was the straightest. The key to this one was moving exposure compensation down heavily to -2.3.
@rayvonn I really like the composition - but I find the balance of light and shadow especially compelling. There's still detail in the dark areas, and the center is perfectly exposed. The same could - in theory - be done with spot metering instead of exposure compensation, but working the shadows like this takes a lot of dedication when using SOOC JPEGs - and a very clear inner picture of the final image. Great result.
