SIJ - Day 08 Deep in a Devon lane

As I walked one mid winters morning, it was a grey and uninspiring day (with apologies to Laurie Lee). A few minutes up the lane past my cottage and I joined the 1000 year old royal carriage road. I didn't take many photographs this morning, most were different to one another and none really stood out. The landscapes will have to wait for more inspiring skies, if we ever get any this January, so it was this rather damp section of the lane that I eventually choose, and yes before you ask, I had worn my wellies, experience helps.
I like the tonal rendering of the water. This just proves that you can get nice photos even in grey weather.

great texture, it looks really sticky! Looks like you could easily lose a boot there...

Barrie, this is another really great image. I admire you for not allowing the rain and mud to stop you - and you must have gotten down on your knees for this one, too!

Beautiful wet details, and I love the idea that this has been a royal carriage road! So much history has passed through this lane!

Great composition and processing here Barrie...the scene really sucks you in. Excellent. I have to say that I like the strong primary line created by the stream - it not only invites you forward but back to the viewer. And here is the bit I love the most: the very immediate foreground! That lapping water has been captured perfectly (in light, tone and movement). You then realise this is the stuff that the whole stream must be made of and your eye meanders up it's length again, but this time in a more considered slower pace.

GREAT WORK! :2thumbs:
