SIJ - Day 14 First Light
Just a short walk across one field (half way to the estuary) to catch the pre dawn. The trees are a line of Small-leaved Limes (the Linden tree), prehistorical pollen records suggest this had been the commonest tree in the UK, now rather uncommon and a sign of an ancient woodland. Most were cleared because the land they grew on was prime agricultural land. These are in a hedge bank and might be quite aged.
No tranquil dawn is this as a keen wind is springing up from the east.
In down sizing from 300dpi to 72dpi and then compressing for the web posting there is some blocking of the shadows. The print I've done from a tiff at 300dpi, 257mm x 170mm has more shadow detail, the fence line on my side of the hedge bank is visible and there is some shadow detail towards the lower right hand side. It's a case of preserving the desired mood value which I feel gets destroyed if there is too much foreground detail revealed.

Such a strong composition Barrie. Love the powerful diagonal created by the silhouette...and the small repetition in the right hand corner of the background.

Barrie, it seems to me that your photographic images are becoming stronger and more beautiful all the time. You've framed this so well and the scene is visually interesting as well as poetic. Drama, design and beauty all in one.

I'm also downright envious that you can take a short walk and be in such natural beauty. I can't thank you enough for sharing your world with us.
