This is on the campus of the Divinity School at yale University. This structure is a part of the Sterling Divinity Quadrangle which was built in 1932 and modeled, in part, on the University of Virginia.
I find this walkway interesting in that it has several sets of steps in this perspective moving from high to low. Thought this is not immediately evident, the doorway at the every end is quite a bit lower than the camera and you are in fact looking down at it from this vantage point.
The main mission of Yale College (the Undergraduate College at Yale) at its founding in 1701 was religious training, serving the Congregationalist churches of Connecticut. In its charter, it was designed as a school "wherein Youth may be instructed in the Arts & Sciences who through the blessing of Almighty God may be fitted for Publick employment both in Church & Civil State." A professorship of divinity was established in 1746 and in 1822, a separate department developed, later known as the Yale Divinity School.
