SIJ - Day 02

Ricoh GXR Mount A12 - Zeiss ZM 35/2

Water Street, Gastown (Vancouver). Pouring buckets this night; I left my youngest son at the soccer field for his practice and had an hour to kill so went downtown looking for something emblematic of wet and rain. Maybe I didn't choose the strongest image but that is easy when none are particularly strong. I picked this one for whimsy's sake.

This one shows the rain off better...

I'm having a hard time editing down selections to one, possibly also because it has been dark when I'm shooting and I'm trying to avoid duplication of themes, not always with success as you'll see on my day 3 upload!

Hope everyone is having fun at this.
I still pretty well remember that place. I was there late September, 1999 (long time ago for sure). I remember that, I think, to the left at Water Street there is an Indian gift shop (correct me if I am wrong). I am glad I visited Gastown under much better circumstances. Funny though that your weather today reminds me of the weather we had today in the Netherlands.

Doing a photo a day project it is almost unavoidable to duplicate themes. And don't worry. I personally consider a photo a day project more a method to make your photography process open to yourself and others. And even though you thing you didn't choose your strongest image I still very much like it. You show just enough information to get a sense for the place and the conditions you witnessed. Nothing more is necessary.

I like this very much. Just enough light to pick out some details like the umbrella on the left.

I've always wanted to visit Vancouver, but I'm not so sure now. Wet and dark, that's what it is, eh?

Just don't come here from November through January Marlof... usually out wettest weather is before Christmas but a flow of tropical air this year dubbed the "Tropical Punch" (when it comes from Hawaii we call it the Pineapple Express) has system after system crossing our area.

I wanted to get a little more definition on the umbrellas and back up a little to get more of their bodies in but I was already soaked by this point and not yet done for the night so bid a retreat to cover for a while.

I like it, Mike and that street sign is perfect!

Love the lights, the movement of the umbrellas...the people the glistening wetness and then there's the clear sign - "Water St."! Wonderful!
