Its a cross made of cloves and berries. All my ornaments mean something - for a couple of years I asked people to make me something for my tree, so I have a variety of trinkets which all relate to specific people - the friend who likes stained glass and made me a glass snowman, the blacksmith who made an iron spiral, the small wooden bits I made myself, the coloured paper bits from my friends kids. Then there are the bought ones - wooden soldiers and a fluffy sheep from Mum, a couple of baubles from my youngest brother, the little red house from my old next door neighbour.
I'm not religious (but I am spiritual, if that makes sense) so for me Christmas is about trying to be the person I know I should be all year, and about remembering all my famliy and friends and being grateful for them. Whatever else happens, once a year I handle something they gave me and put it on display for a month where I will see it every day and think of them.
I may be a rufty tufty farm vet, but I'm a softie really.
