Questions like this are basically unanswerable. Each of us has different preferences and priorities.
Personally, in two years of using a X-E1 I can remember very few occasions where my 18mm wasn't wide enough. On the other hand I quite often use a 70-300mm zoom.
If you really need...
If it's any help, I've been using an X-E1 for nearly two years and I plan to buy the X-T1 plus 18-135mm as soon as it becomes available as a kit here in France (saving about 300€ on the combined price).
I've used almost every type of viewfinder known to Man and I'm pretty agnostic about whether...
If you are going to slavishly follow the meter then why use manual? I generally use either aperture or shutter priority and tweak the EV adjustment dial if I think it needs it.
Sometimes I'll use full manual if I think I know better than the camera what result I'm after. In that case the last...
If you don't have much experience (sounds like it, but I could be wrong) with wide angles then using a 14mm as your wide lens is probably going to end in tears. It's a big jump in angle from the 35mm and isn't an obvious choice for walk around shooting. I have the 18mm and sometimes find that a...
Not knowing the details of the location my first reaction was 'wrong weather and wrong time of day'. Plus (apart from the blown sky) it looks about a stop under exposed.
If this were sufficiently important to me I'd probably use a bit of flash (maybe three remote heads) slaved to get a few...
Something that wouldn't damage the quality reputation but would save a fair bit would be to bring out a couple more f:2 lenses. 35mm, 50mm & 75mm on a par with the 18mm would be nice.
You could try making your own.
Start with a flat plate of thin metal -- even the end of a bean tin would be OK.
Take a spare body cap and drill a hole about 14" (5mm) wide in the middle.
Cut the plate to fit the body cap. Next comes the craftsman bit.
Mark the dead centre of your...
Hmmmmm.
I routinely shoot my 70-300mm zoom at the long end on my X-E1, hand held and using mag view for focusing. And I'm 65 years old with multi-focal specs.
Shot hand held using 300mm from another moving boat.
Both my Sigma zooms are Nikon mount, if that's any help. However, if sharpness is your primary aim then Nikon glass will almost certainly deliver what you want.
There is a thread on DPR -- First real world results with the Nikkor 300mm 4.5 EDIF

I use a cheap (50€!) Sigma 70-300 zoom that gives me good enough results for my purposes. It's versatile, lightweight and fun, but presumably not as sharp as a...
Just a thought.
Why not drill into the area you want to hack from the back (camera) side of the grip, just to be absolutely sure it's solid rather than hollow? worst case you'll have a tiny hole in a location that isn't even visible in use.
