    Birds Show Birds

Not to be too species-pedantic Luis, but while that is a nice bird and well-shot, it is not a blue jay. Closer to a grey jay, but not that either - without knowing where you are shooting its hard to offer any better id. THIS - is a blue jay... !

To follow up Peter's kookaburra, a few other (less iconic) Australian bush birds; Spangled Drongo Black-faced monarch Eastern spinebill

    Nikon Nikon DL series

Wow, that is something we don't see often. But I suppose that is the risk when established players stay out of a new sector for too long - it can become too hard to elbow your way back in. Wonder how long Canon will persist with the EOS M?

    London Protest

These are very tense images - a lot of, lets say, very engaged people here. I get claustrophobia just viewing, let alone being in this crowd shooting with close lenses.

Micro 4/3 Micro 4/3 macro with Oly 60mm

And one more example, with a crop: Tide pool view; with a tiny (15mm or so) crab poking out...original shot from a metre or so away - the 120mm equivalent FL of this lens helps in not needing to get quite so close. And a 1:1 crop of the crab (well, it is when posted...SC site will re-size a...

Micro 4/3 Micro 4/3 macro with Oly 60mm

Noticed a few people on other threads mentioning the Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro lens - I have had the Oly 60 lens for a while now but not shot much with it (bought when local temps about -28C, not ideal for patient outdoor close focus), so now in temporarily warm place, I am doing more close range...

    Textures, lines and angles

Inspired by Peter's wonderful series from Australia; now that I am here for a while over (Aussie) summer, time to post a few.... Grass trees off our deck (b&w treatment)

Micro 4/3 OMD EM5 owner purchases OMD EM5 II – impressions so far

Thanks Jock for reporting your experiences... I too now have both EM5 bodies, with the mark II usually attached to my Oly 100-300 zoom for birding use, and the original with either the 60 macro or 12 prime. A great walk around package I intend to use most days on my current down under stay.

    Sydney Harbour

Really enjoyed these Aussie series Pete - now that I am down under for a while this will inspire me to look beyond the birds I enjoy shooting to more varied views...

    Birds Show Birds

I agree with this view Bill, but nonetheless have sold off my Pentax gear including its excellent long lens. My "compromise" now (used in the above waxwing shot) is m4/3, so far with the Oly 75-300 - compromise some final shot quality for halving the weight. The m4/3 admittedly does not get to...

One of our "signs of spring" birds in northern latitudes.... cedar waxwing (the other noisy 40 or so did not fit into the frame!). Very hard to shoot as in their excitable spring flocks, they stay in one position for a maximum of 2 seconds.

    Easter Time in Spain......

How many noticed the two women talking to each other across the lane, in photo 4? A good example of a simple shot that rewards a longer look.....

    the Cemetery image thread....

Always inspired by the cementerios - from Lucille and others... one from San Sebastian, Jalisco Mex. (Pentax K5, 77mm FA lens)

And last from Costa Rica, a gorgeous bird: Turquoise browed Motmot. For the Aussies in the group, this is a colourful kookaburra sized bird with two vastly extended tail feathers. Not quite as common as the kookaburra though... it is amazing how these bright colours disappear into a dappled...

Second from Costa Rica is a Black headed Trogon (sounds like an alien from Star Wars!).
