Film Yashica Mat, should I buy it?

Do not buy a 124. It is a HUGELY overrated camera. A lot of the internals are plastic. Get an LM, EM, or an earlier Yashica. I have an EM and love it. It is my walk around medium format. The meter is no longer working but with a basic light reading, you can do the rest in your head based on...

Film Does it matter where BW is developed?

I have outside labs do all of my developing. For B&W, I send it off to the Darkroom Lab. For color, I have a local camera shop who does C41 every two days. Just tell them to push the film 2 stops. Arista, in my experience, does not push too well so youll get heavy grain and more contrast. Should...

Film Metering for color negative film

If you think about it, if you are metering for the shadows, you are already overexposing. Use the zone system. Your meter wants to put everything into zone 5, which is middle gray. If you meter for the shadows, you are bringing shadow detail up into middle gray, zone 5. By doing that, you are...

So, this has become my favorite BW film BUT it is also no longer made. I was given about 50 rolls and am using them relatively sparingly. Zeiss Ercona 1 Yashicamat EM Yashicamat EM Yashicamat EM Yashicamat EM Zeiss Ercona 1

    Film Showcase Ilford Delta 3200

Thanks. It only looks like it was daylight. It was very early in the morning, about 30 minutes after sunrise. I am not too sure what to think about 3200. It is a nice film but I think I could get better results if I push TriX or TMax to 1600. I am going to give that a shot and then compare...

    Film Showcase Ilford XP2 Super

Thanks. I have only shot one roll of Acros in 120 through my ETR. I liked it quite a bit but not enough to choose it over anything else. I have a bunch of Kodak 125PX I am working my way through for finer photos. The beauty of the XP2 is that it is C41 which makes it SO much cheaper to develop...

    Film Showcase Ilford XP2 Super

I really like XP2. The differences between the EM and the MX are going to be metering. I allow the MXs mostly center weighted metering system make the recommendations for me whereas the EM I use a Sekonic and take a basic shadow reading and work off of that.
