Sony "AF On" and manual mode

I couldn't agree more about the metering on this camera. It beats the pants off my full frame DSLR in that regard, which frequently overexposes in mixed sunlight and shade. Also, I have come to rely on the real time histogram, which is of course not available with the optical finder in a DSLR.

Sony "AF On" and manual mode

The tracking focus trick had not occurred me. Here all this time I've been vainly trying to keep Fido in focus with tracking AF and you suggest a actual practical use for this feature. Thanks.

Sony "AF On" and manual mode

I am wondering how many RX1 owners program the focusing function (AF/MF control hold) to the "C" button on the top of the camera. Separating the focusing function from the shutter button is very popular in the DSLR world, but I wondered if there is any real advantage to doing this with the...

Sony Grab bag for my RX1R

I would agree about the build and quality of this grip. The only shortcoming that I have found is that with the grip fitted on the camera, it is a bit difficult to remove the memory card from its slot because of the additional depth created by the grip.

Sony back from trip and innitial RX1 feedback...

battery life I have the found that the battery tends to drain down rather abruptly and I think that the meter is not terribly accurate in indicating impending exhaustion. Not a big deal, but it does catch me off guard.

    Sony Count me in.

I find the jpegs from this camera to be just fine. I do tweak them occasionally for exposure or white balance but no more so than my other cameras. DP Review likewise opined that the jpegs from the RX1 were very good.

    Sony A small gripe

Well, I had thought to include in my initial posting that I wish the same thing for my Nikon D600. I know about the "two button" thing, but I have found it to be somewhat hit and miss on my D600 and its predecessor, a D7000. I don't know why, I should be able to push two buttons at once. Anyway...

    Sony A small gripe

I am enjoying my new RX1r greatly, to the extent that I have had time to use it. I am a firm believer in frequently formatting my SD memory card (after downloading of course). I am yet to experience a card failure or file corruption, and I can't help but think that this practice helps. I wish...

Smartphone Cell phones sharper than serious compacts now?

Cell phones Cell phone cameras have come a long way, and that is a good and bad thing. Good, because everyone has one and it makes photographing all the more handy. Bad, because although much improved, by absolute terms they are not as good as a good compact much less a DSLR. Sales of smart...
