Is this in review mode or in live view?
If in review mode, I think the X-T1 remembers the level of zoom you set previoulsy. If you want to change that level, use the rear wheel.
If it's in live view you were definitely VERY far from that street :)
I have the intuition that the 10x magnification is actually starting from the whole image on the LCD magnified 10 times. I didn't go into calculations but that probably is below what fuji labels as 100% (as in every pixel of the LCD maps one pixel of the image). I can't remember if the 5D allow...

As you are using only one eye (so parallax is not a problem) your could try to use your right eye. It.s annoying at start, but it's feasible.
Other than that, I haven't seen any optical magnifier for the X series... You could find one for the lcd screen, but you'd lose all benefit of the OVF...
What is your optical correction on the left eye?
You might want to use diopter adapters if you are only slightly near or far sighted.
