Thanks :)
Hopefully, the depth of field increase will mask the shift concerning things that are already in focus, since the lens improves greatly at f2 - f4.
Well, it seems that my Zorki 1 is closer to Leica than Zeiss, my Zorki 4K (which is a real dog in every sense) seems typical Zeiss...
Heh...
Last year, I was struggling to open and adjust my Jupiter-3 lens, so I could adjust it to my Leica's. You can read the story here.
I ended up with some kind of bastardized J3, consisting of parts from two different Jupter-3 lenses.
I never could shorten the focal on that one, to a point...
Not sure about the chemistry behind old lubes, but the drying out is nothing that is specifically for old Soviet lenses, I've seen the same on old Leica-lenses as well.
I suppose every lubricant dries out after a while, no matter what, but modern lithium and silicone-based may last longer(?).
I...
Thanks for the tip, it's little things like this that can save a whole bunch of time indeed.
I've wondered a little about those kinds of screws when I have done my lenses, but always thought that "repeated use will smoothen things out if there is a problem", but good to be aware that there can...
Yes, I've read that there were issues with eye-pieces for microscopes(?) or something that had Thorium in them that could cause cataract to workers after years of daily use.
With the inverse square law in mind, normal usage of this lens or other radioactive lenses, would yield very low dosages...
At one meter, it's background, actually, you obtain background at around 30cm in front of the lens.
Behind it, I think it's more or less background when you are 3-4 cm behind the lens. (that's where your face normally is when shooting).
A guy at APUG measured the activity _on surface_ to be...
How erotic :D
Here are mine, modifications on these shots are soft-release button in silver on the M6 and M3, as well as a UV-filter on the M6 and M3 (I have also since attached one to the collapsible, since the coating/glass is rather fragile).

That's very cool, I hope it helps someone out in the future. Some of this info is really hard to find (if at all) and experimenting with expensive stuff is rarely a good idea ;)
Hey
Neat! (I wonder if I still have my old disks, I used to have a ton, but I think I have thrown them all away during the 2000's, I need to check).
As promised, here are some photos of the disassembly of the (my) lens:
It may be different from other versions, as far as I know from googling...
Yeah, I am glad I didn't have to go into the helical from the front on this lens, the front (which is taken off by using a rubber-pad in the video) on mine is tight as a <insert funny analogy here> :)
By the way, about curing the yellowing, I found an interesting thread here (seems you found...
Hello =)
I will need to tear it down again anyway, so I will take some snaps of the process as I do that.
For reference:
Mine is very similar to the summitar here Repair: Leica Summitar
But the article has few photos.
Here is the procedure on a Summicron M, not LTM , mine needs a different...
Hello
I need to replace the felt on my collapsible Summicron f2, because the lens is very hard to push/pull and twist (I twist the lens off my camera if I need to collapse it). Also, this tightness seem to interfere with the focus-action as well, somehow, I am not sure, it may all be in my head...
Ok, so here's the conclusion to this little story ^^
I was never able to loosen the stuck rear-triplet from the original lens (not even after 2 months in acetone), stuck like it's welded in place :/
Eventually, I got hold of a new lens-barrel with aperture blades. (no glass)
I then proceeded...
Hmm, looks like I just hit a brick wall. :(
The rear triplet is glued shut, there is no way to budge it.
I've placed the whole thing in an acetone bath, filled it up to the aperture blades. I don't have a spanner yet, so the whole optical module is in there. (need to see where I can get hold...
