GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

Early one morning late last week I was poking around on the Ricoh Pentax US website, looking at specs of the new GR HDF cameras. I've enjoyed my GRIIIx that I've had for a year or so (had kind of a love/hate relationship with it for a while but I finally warmed up to it). Since then, I've toyed...

Single In Single in April (SiA) 2024 - day 18

Today I was playing with some handheld nature close-ups. This really isn't the lens for that - I like its character but it's not really very sharp at minimum focus, especially wide open. It was still fun making some snapshots of my neighbors' tree.

Posting late. Unexpectedly had to drive out of state yesterday. Stopped for a late lunch at a local “buffet” restaurant in a small town somewhere in Missouri. Though I made this photo while no diners were at the buffet, the place was hopping at 3pm. iPhone snap.

So I posted about a wire bison sculpture over in the SiA thread for today, 13 April, and also in the outtakes thread. Five meters away from that sculpture is a prior sculpture by the same artist, Jeff Best of Clare, MI - of an elk. To me this one doesn't seem as refined as the bison, and is an...

Single In Single in April (SiA) 2024 - outtakes day 11-15

Day 13 outtakes. I was walking at a local prairie park today that just installed a new wire sculpture of an American Bison. Paraphrased from my description in the main thread, the bison sculpture is life-size (6 ft / 2m tall) and constructed out of reclaimed barbed wire from a South Dakota USA...

Single In Single in April (SiA) 2024- day 13

This is the head and "horn" of a wire sculpture of an American Bison, by sculptor Jeff Best of Clare, Michigan. The entire bison sculpture is life-size (6 ft / 2m tall), weighs 700 pounds / 318 kg, and is constructed out of reclaimed "barbed wire" from a South Dakota USA ranch. It took 2 miles /...

Found this 1968 textbook (complete with dated cash register receipt from the university bookstore) in one of those "little free library" stands. Just in time for today's, um, safety shot.
