Wait, then to a certainly not small extent Roger Hicks and Frances Schultz (and their comments regarding the Jupiter-3 in their Rangefinder book, 2003) are to blame that you discovered the shimming technique :)
Meanwhile I've realised you have a soft spot for exactly those lenses that happen to have a somehow Ā«mixedĀ» reputation, or even the much scolded ones :)
I do have the impression that many of the guys who were or are scolding ancient lens Ā«xĀ» or lens Ā«yĀ» may be just completely superficial...
I guess you're right, and it's worth a try.
AFAIK, before they've implemented the ZEISS standard in the Soviet Union, they used LEICA standard (for their FED und Zorki); I don't know the exact point of time, when they switched, and there may be probably some overlap when they've used both...
I was thinking exactly he same!
I'm actually not familiar with the focal length 35mm in genuine rangefinder mount(s) [but I use the 21ā¦25mm range, usually adapted SLR-lenses, quite often], hence I wasn't prepared to be the first one to say that ;)
After my premature rejoice regarding the 1938 Sonnar in a 1960s Soviet Union barrel, I found this:
Fast Russian Portrait JUPITER-8 50/f2 LEICA FED Zorki M39 Lens + Box!
There are some typos in the description [my emphases], see:
ā but according to the pictures itās a Jupiter-8M 2/53.
I...
Update: I was rejoicing too early ā although I was offering to pay a tad more than the seller wanted, he sold it to another person who apparently had discovered the ad earlier. :(
OTOH, itās basically good to see when a seller has promised to sell an item for a certain price, they remain...
Ouch.
The detail that a bank wire transfer took place (or did I misunderstand that?) made me go into the wrong direction ā I would have thought that's *so* European, the seller can't be American!
But now I can understand much better why you're annoyed.
You're right, Brian, my daughters are still pre-pubescent, but their future is also in my mind :)
You see my avatar, can you guess what it is? It's heavy, has a protruding part, and one can say it's sort of a distance meter ā I was planning to lend it to my daughters when they start to go to a...
If one doesn't have a Thread Mount Leica at hands, it could be used as a finger ring, probably even as a self-defense device (Ā«knuckle dusterĀ»?) I could imagine:
See here: Tech Photo Rapid Advance Lever f. Leica | eBay
Is it a Europe (Germany?) based forum?
If the seller is European: I can imagine that they're simply not aware that there are different versions of that cord. I mean: how often does it happen when one is e.g. a Mac user without any MS software on their computer that you get some *.doc file, and...
Now I can read the numbers too: looks like 2272120 (not sure regarding the last three).
:2thumbs: ā¦ And in 2067, expert X will say: Ā«This one lens is not listed in the authoritative Sweeney Lens Diary, but definitely Sweeney School.Ā» Expert Y will answer: Ā«You're wrong. Everyone knows that the...
