Fuji Okay, I joined Club Fuji...

Congrats! I bought one (used) in March this year, and have so far been really pleased with it. Sure, there're some quirks and some things I'd like to see improved, but with the most recent firmware, it really is a very enjoyable camera to use (never experienced it with older firmware). It's my highest-quality camera too, and I, my family and my friends have all been consistently wowed by its output. AF is quick enough not to be a problem (for me anyway).

I'd know exactly, but something odd has happened 2x in the past year... when I pull the camera card and empty the image folders on my pc, sometimes I would also delete all but one of the folders that the X100 creates. When I did, and I put the card back into the camera, the photo counter would reset from, say, DCF10,000 back to DCF5,000. So the next pic I took would 5,001 instead of 10,001. That's happened twice, and I'm still back up near 10k again. Must be about 20k total shots on there. I guess that's a heavy pace for one year?

Very cool John, I think you'll like it lots.

Next time we get together for the SeriousCompacts NJ/PA group I'll bring mine and we can make a Fuji day of it :2thumbs:

Thanks, Jay!

Okay, it's here and I'm seriously impressed, even in JPG which I almost never shoot. In fact, I haven't got to RAW yet.

Simply lovely performance even at ISO 3200. I have taken no photos worth posting -- just junk around home. Tomorrow I'll see if I can give it a workout at the plant and get some industrial scenes. This Saturday I have to go in at 5AM so I'll get some early morning shots then.

I was expecting a moderately unusable camera -- boy was I surprised. This thing works WAY better than I thought. No, AF is not FAST -- but neither is it so slow as to be ridiculous. Running firmware 1.30 and all is well.

I really dig the retro OPERATION, not just the look. A real aperture and shutter speed dial? How sweet is that? Very! NO MODE DIAL! Put both on "A" you are in "Program", put just shutter on "A" you're in aperture priority, put just the aperture on "A" and you're in shutter priority. Select values on both, its manual! Brilliant and refreshing -- or at least it is to an old guy who remembers cameras that worked like that.

I like the Nikon-esque control buttons on the left of the display -- reminds me of my Nikon DSLR's and I'm quite comfortable with it. I even like the idea of the 4 way control pad controlling AF point when you hold down the AF button. Perfect for shooting JPG particularly as it allows you direct access to WB, Drive, Macro and Flash. Usually I want the 4 way pad to directly control AF point, but I can get used to this easily. I like the OVF/EVF hybrid finder.

I was really surprised by the weight of the camera -- it looks much heavier than it feels. That's a good thing.

NOT disappointed with my early experience just at the house. This could be a real winner for me.

Thanks, Jay!

Indeed, I find it strange that camera manufacturers ever went away from this arrangement in the first place i.e. when digital arrived. I find it even more strange that so few (Fuji alone?) have gone back to it... especially given the generally enthusiastic welcome for Fuji's 'old-fashioned' dials.

It leaves me wondering why so many manufacturers aren't following suit, and returning to this type of control configuration:confused:... could it be that they don't want to admit that they went the 'wrong way'? That would seem illogical, however, since one would think that they would be more interested in boosting sales than worrying about any pride about changes of direction.

All that aside, it's good to hear that you're enjoying the x100. (y):)

I enjoy reading someone else's experience with what I already have, and it got me wondering why. I've noticed this elsewhere as well - when someone gets the same motorcycle that I've had for 6 years / 51k miles, or a guitar amp that I've had for years, I find myself fascinated with their reactions to it. And I think it's because once I've gotten overly-familiar with a tool, I am no longer able to properly see it as others would see it.

Take the manual dials for ap, shutter, and EV. I remember being incredibly happy with them when I first started using it, and now those traits have morphed into some kind of base-level requirement for any serious camera in my head. When I pick up a camera that doesn't have them, I am instantly annoyed and even a tiny bit angry. My fingers just know where to go, in operation, to make the changes I want to see in the viewfinder.

Well, here's a first shot, out-of-camera JPG with slight sharpening and curves adjustment is all.

ISO 3200, F/4, 1/51 second (yes, that's what the EXIF says, lol) It's uploaded here as and attachment so I think you can click it and see the full size file.

Nice first shot! I see you also purchased the fuji millisecond smores toaster.

Here's a few more from today. These were processed in Lightroom though. At the end is a Lightroom processed version of the first one I shot.

However, these are all still done from JPG's and not my usual RAW's. I have to say this camera has some JPG output that rocks.
