Canon Showcase EOS M Images

I'm confused by the phrase "pinch to focus". Is this a zoom in for manual focus?
I mis-typed (now corrected). I meant "pinch-to-zoom" You have you reverse pinch or pinch outward (spread your fingers) to zoom into the pic in playback to check focus. It's awkward doesn't work well and, for me, mostly leads to accidentally going to the next picture

A simple "double-tap" that would auto zoom to 100% on the focus point would be much better.

I missed the "check" focus part. I do this all the time in review, but I was wondering if that could be done in capture mode. My E-PL5 allows you to zoom in for focusing purposes. That would be really handy on the Canon since the focus box is huge.

On the lower right hand corner is a magnifying glass. Tap it once and a focus box (at 1X) appears. Tap the screen to move the focus box wherever you want, then tap again for 5X, and once more for 10X. One more tap and you are back to 1X focus.

It works very well for still life and macro. It's a bit too cumbersome, IMO, for anything else. It would also be nice if, ala Panny, they zoom in via picture-in-picture, rather than the whole screen.

With much like the M, the feature feels about 75% there, but not quite done. I don't know what Canon plans to do with the M, but a FW fix on a couple of these niggles would go quite a distance to helping the camera.

And just think I coulda shot this with an RX1.

I got an X100 to compare to my EOS-M today. Fastest turn around of any camera. In this morning, and already sold it this evening (I was lucky to break even!). The diopter didn't work for me, and if I'm going to have to use the LCD, it might as well be on the M!

The M is actually substantially slower than the X100 (w/FW 1.30), mostly in buffer clearing shot-to-shot speed, but I like the M lens better! The M is sharper at f/2. I also think the low ISO of the two cameras is pretty much the same (didn't try high ISO, but that's not what I'll use this camera for). And, for shooting from the LCD, I actually like the LCD controls a bit more than the X100's aperture ring. Lastly, though not as quite as the X100, the M's shutter sound is pretty subdued.

I hope Canon releases a v2, which handles a few niggles. If it added the 70D's on-chip PDAF, that'd be gold. I really like this 22mm lens. Maybe I'll try the kit zoom next. I wouldn't have paid $800 for it, but at $300, this gem is a steal.

Understand most but the X100 has virtually no shutter sound at all if ypu turn off the stupid fake shutter sound, lol. The only camera I have quieter than the X100 is my early 70's Minolta Hi-Matic E. Leaf shutters in lenses are whisper quiet.

Also, how do you compare sharpness of an 18mp vs a 12 mp sensor? Not a fair comparison that.

Glad the EOS M is good for somebody! It is too much camera to be wasted whatever its flaws.

The 22mm is especially better in close focus...sharp as hell from 15mm mfd to infiinity @ f2 (in the center only at f2).
