Budgie / Parakeet close up

Still trying to get good results with extention tubes and needed something more lively than a flower to practice and check focussing.

So my good friend Dixie came was asked for help


X-E1, 55-200mm , ISO 4000 , Focal Length 200mm , Aperture f/4.8, Exposure Time 0.004s (1/250), 42mm extention tube, not cropped.



X-E1, 55-200mm ISO 4000, Focal Length 115.9mm , Aperture f/5.6, Exposure Time 0.004s (1/250), 42mm extention tube, not cropped.


X-E1v, ISO 6400, Focal Length 70.5mm (106mm in 35mm), Aperture f/5.6, Exposure Time 0.0047s (1/210), 42mm extention tube, 50% cropped.

With these results I can't wait to try the tubes out for some insect macro's, (still have to make my flash rig)

Which tubes did you get and where?

All from ebay, here I'm using a 16mm+10mm fotga and a 16mm viltrox.

The fotga's are to loose, so they loose connection between the camera and the lens. The viltrox's locking pin doesn't fully retract,

I've been trying to get them to work for a while now and after taking them apart and putting the together more than once, i must have done something right because they work now. So now I've got a working 42 mm extension tube.

Question, why the high ISO? Could the shutter be drawn out a bit more to lower that? (Doesn't seem to have hurt the images any though.)

I'm not a macro guy by any means Ronnie, but I like what I see here. Since you've asked for CC, IMO shot #2 could have benefitted somewhat if the eye were a bit sharper > the lens stopped down a stop or two. Lovely model you have there ! How about an LED panel or some bounced torches instead of a flash rig ? Your bird might possibly prefer some more steady light.

I had the camera on auto iso, 1/250s and up to 6400, normally I wouldn't do that for macro shots, but my subject wasn't standing still, and was running/walking up and down the couch. Combine that with bad lighting and I'm just happy to have any descent shots.

the flash rig won't be used on him it's more for insects and they wont be around for some weeks.
And you're right about a led panel, have it but always forget to use it. See if he wants to stand long enough next time.
