Fuji Why doesn't my X-T1 focus on this object while my Ipad does?

I've noticed that my X-T1 sometimes has problems with focusing and I don't know if it's just my camera or... something else.

Hmm... Lots of clarifications needed here. What lens are you using? What AF settings? Which firmware, on both lens and camera? Also, bear in mind that the "camera" in a tablet is a wide-angle with large DoF and very rudimentary AF capabilities in comparison, and lens elements that knock a tablet into a cocked hat. The Fuji should blow the tablet into the weeds...

I'm not sure how AF works in these new devices but years ago it worked on contrast detection. On the 4th frame we see the AF frame over an area of low contrast, typically this it where AF systems go back and forth hunting for a point of contrast. A good example is to point your camera at a grey sky and try to get focus. Just a thought.

Yep. You seem to have aimed at a purely white area with a tiny AF box, whereas the ipad has a larger focus area and (as Bill mentions) a relatively huge depth of field, owing to the tiny sensor and wide lens angle. Slide your fuji's AF box a hair farther up to the black and white area on the glass, half press to see if it locks on, and fire if it does. OR... make your AF box larger. Nothing can focus on pure white.

I agree with the replies given, and might also suggest focusing on the edge of that high-contrast cardboard. It appears at about the same distance as the glass, and, without knowing the specific lens used, may consider stopping down if possible, to, say, f/4.0, which would also serve to increase depth of field, thus bringing the glass into sharper focus.
