lots of chriping and fluffing about this evening ... I noticed a couple of Pied Wagtail, recently fledged, then happily most of the rest of the family turned up ... not the finest sharpest shots I know, and cropped to boot, but ...

... there are at least a dozen more (shots, not Wagtails) but life's too short for too much picture editing ... all with E-P2, 70-300ED

No condors here, but plenty of black vultures and turkey buzzards. Some ranchers will kill a black vulture on sight since they are notorious for liking to eat the placenta left over when a calf is born. Sometimes in a feeding frenzy, they will devour the calf too. Illegal to kill them, but they are still killed for this reason.

They are very graceful when in the air though. This is a turkey vulture or turkey buzzard. It has a red head and is generally bigger than a black vulture. Turkey vultures are absolutely harmless. Wings are different too as a black vulture has a distinctive V look to it's wings when in flight.

Turkey buzzard.

Those are great shots of the Black Vultures, Ricky. I appreciate your telling us about the differences between the two types of vultures. Turkey vultures are what I'm more familiar with, though within the last couple of years I have noticed more Black Vultures around - though I never see any this close and certainly not in my backyard!

First time I saw one of the guys, I thought someone had caught them and painted them as a joke.

Here the little fella is making himself as big as possible and running at me, trying to get me to leave the area of his nest I suppose.

Crows are so cool. They are fearless when it comes to a hawk.
