Another dull day but got these before the rain started.

This was my other choice for today...

The mid-challenge camera change is proving hard. I think mainly because Adobe haven't started supporting the X-T3 yet, so I am editing using new software. I spent all afternoon in Photoshop trying to get a black and white from yesterday to look the way I wanted and once I had I decided that I didn't like it anymore!

One of two outtakes from today - I actually like both shots, but they're a tad underexposed, which sort of kills the joke in each case. Here, you see a e-scooter from a local sharing network - in front of Gasprom's Berlin headquarters. For those who don't know it, Gasprom is Russia's biggest oil and gas company, and Germany's Russia's biggest customer when it comes to natural gas. The scooter points to a different future (well, not that soon, but eventually).

I'm not sure if I can fix the other image I took this morning - it's a more direct kind of off-joke ;) But I don't want to have to describe what you would see had I done things correctly ... duh ...

Okay, here goes ... It's almost there now: To understand the joke, "etwas Neues" means "something new" - so the ad on the sidewalk says: "Are you ready for something new?" - and in the background, there's a seriously derelic executive chair with some impromptu graffiti on it ... precious. But it's more a story than a picture, I have to admit.

Still trying to figure out a way to make a beach scene look half decent in black and white... :026:

If I had an under water housing for the GF1 I might have been able to post a baby shark as the photo for Saturday...

Here's a first for this thread, a "behind the scenes" shot. Today, I went back the same way as yesterday (to one of my favourite restaurants in Berlin, a small Korean place aptly called "Core") and got the shot I wanted to produce with the RF70 but couldn't. Here's a corresponding one from the G1X III ...

David, apart from your very good eye for subjects, I'm very taken with the colours as well as the general IQ coming from the R-D1 - I wouldn't have guessed we'd see this kind of results! (y)

Thanks, Matt.
The R-D1s can make some pretty amazing images with a little patience and a decent lens. It's not very forgiving. For example, I usually shoot in aperture priority and the shutter speeds shown in red in the bottom of the VF are all but impossible to see, (I wear glasses), except in very low light. It's very easy to get camera motion with a too slow shutter speed.
You have to cock the shutter with a film advance lever. That's easy to forget.
I think it's a "recycled" Bessa body of sorts. The film rewind knob activates a number of camera functions including LCD magnification. Another interesting characteristic.
But the ERF raw files from the camera appear to be untainted and allow for a lot of manipulation in processing and that's a definite plus.
I was lucky to get a body in super condition except for a very out of alignment rangefinder. Stephen Gandy at Cameraquest did an amazing job realigning the finder so if you focus careful enough the images can be very sharp.
Pardon my ramblings but the R-D1s is/can be a very competent image making tool.
Best,
. . . David
