I've been going back and forth over m4/3 telephoto lenses. The trade-offs and compromises involved with the available options are well known. The premium telephotos like the PL 50-200 and O 40-150 Pro come with premium price tags and are huge and heavy. There are a handful of consumer zooms that are mostly similar in price and features. Then there's the tweener 35-100 2.8. Fast and sharp, it is still not a small lens, and 100mm may not be enough for what I wanted. I mentioned on here a couple of days ago that I had ruled out the m4/3 consumer zooms. Well, after much deliberation I changed my mind. I found a Panasonic 45-150, a new lens separated from a kit and never used, at a great price. Given that I'm often on a bicycle in the woods and like to carry my camera in a small bar bag, this helped seal the deal: Compact Camera Meter

The super cheap low end 40-150 is a surprisingly good lens and costs maybe $100-$150 bucks. The Lumix 35-100 4-5.6 is an excellent lens and is ridiculously small for a tele zoom.

Nikon 1 J1 that I picked for practically nothing. We have a lot of military personnel PCSing out of Hawai’i to their next duty station. I got this from a soldier rotating out of CONUS. He hadn’t used it in years. Got a couple batteries for it and it works perfectly. I thought this was really interesting when the system was introduced but it was a little pricey at the time. IQ is pretty good and smooth up to ISO 1600. The red is a little jarring, though.

I'd love to see what would happen if I'd go out with that for street photography. I'm willing to bet that no one would take me seriously and that I'd get a lot more in contact with people, leading to different photos. I'm not going after one but it's something to think about. I think.

My brother still uses a J4 all the time for exactly such scenarios.

The red doesn’t scream serious camera, right? You’re probably right. When all gets more to normal, I’ll test that out.

I've done it. I don't even take myself seriously shooting with Nikon 1, but those little Nikon 1 files have a lot of pull if you know how to edit them!

Those photos show fantastic technical ability and style. Well done. I really have been surprised with how well small sensors can perform. You’ve shown how exceptionally well they can perform.

What makes the Nikon 1 experience unique, is the OSPDAF. I feel I have a higher hit rate than when I shot with my M43 cameras which are mainly CDAF. Saying that, I've tested the latest RX100 and the AF on that camera is nuts. It's crazy how far the tech has gone with these small sensors!

A few months ago my wife and I rearranged our book cases, leading to a nice place for my photo books. It was @agentlossing who reminded me of Fred Herzog, so I decided to order it right away now that I have enough room again for my books. Wonderful work indeed.

Great stuff. Fred Herzog's work is among my favourites. I was saddened to read of his passing, last year.

Always wanted to try a Sigma Merrill but never really found a place in my kit.
Found a DP2M for $225. Definitely not Like new in box, but as the seller tagged, A cheap way to try the Foveon.
Really looking forward to it.
I loved the images out of mine. I wish I’d had the patience to stick with the software and the appalling battery life.

Maybe you'll find the time to shoot with one another one day. I've been using the Sigma software as strictly a .tiff converter and carry and rotate four batteries but probably could use a few more. Not too bad. It's definitely a B or C camera and I can see myself growing tired of the effort but also finding back the time to use it after a lull. We'll see.
