So (as you do) I was curious to see how the Canon G1X stacked up as a street camera. The ergonomics, controls, and articulated screen are just right (for me) for this style of shooting, but the AF speed means that in any kind of dynamic situation you need to either pre-focus to a set distance and hold the shutter or set it to manual focus. The Auto ISO is not entirely helpful since the camera appears to have a lot of (justified) faith in the Image Stabilizer, and will wait for shutter speeds of as low as 1/30 second before increasing the ISO speed. The best method that I have found is to use Tv (S) mode to set the shutter speed manually and let the camera choose aperture and ISO to accommodate that.

Thanks for the comments - those were indeed taken with an E-PL1 and my trusty SMC Takumar 50/1.4 (manual focusing with the VF-2 is not that hard after all). The first three were processed in Silver Efex Pro 2 and the last I did in Aperture.
