    Curved monitor for photo editing?

Hey what do you guys/gals think of refresh rates? The prices of monitors equipped with QHD (2K) w/144hz and 4K w/60hz is about the same. In order to get 4K + 144hz refresh rate, the price jumps up significantly more. For editing would a QHD + 144hz refresh rate be better or shoud I go 4K w/60hz...

    Curved monitor for photo editing?

Does anyone use a curve monitor for photo editing? I'm thinking of replacing my dual 27" monitor setup with a single 4K 32" curved monitor. Does anyone have issues with photo editing on a curved monitor? With a looming stay-at-home order in our city, everyone in my family will be going to school...

    Nikon D600 in 2020?

I'd look elsewhere for a camera body, KEH prices are quite high. I'd look at buying used from either Used Photo Pro or MPB, which have decent and fairly accurate descriptions and actual gear photos (KEH just uses a representation image). Saying that, the D750 is the way to go. It fixes all the...

Not directly camera related, but I do use my keyboard for photo editing! My recent Apple USB keyboard started acting up with sticking keys. I tried cleaning it, but it's still acting buggy. Over the years, I've had a string of bad luck with my Apple keyboards always having issues. This time...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

Nikon/Sigma F-mount f/2.8 and f/4 zoom lenses are dirt cheap. You can build an amazing telephoto/sports kit with used prices right now. I prefer Sony for fast primes though. Samyang is now the new budget Sigma, Sigma is the new budget Zeiss! I'm probably the worst customer for these photography...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

There are still a lot of things to like about DSLRs. I don't think Nikon is realizing the full potential of DSLRs right now. For example the D780 has the OSPDAF of the Z6, why not make modern compact primes (like redo the whole f/2.8 AFD prime line) and try slimming down the bodies like the Df...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

So after thinking long and hard, I think I'll be sticking with with my FX DSLRs and not going with the Z5. I'll just stick with Sony for mirrorless. My reasoning is that for the select lenses I have for the F-mount, there's nothing I really want in the Z mount. Sony also has the lenses I like...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

I just did a low light focus comparison between the D750, Z5, A9 and A7III. The now budget oriented D750 actually ties if not slightly exceeds the more modern Sony A9! I was only testing for focus acquisition, but DSLRs still have the leg up in that department. In fact if I shot mostly event...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

I'm looking at the playback display options on the Z5 and the D750, there are options for: focus point, exposure info, highlights, rgb histogram, shooting data, overview and none (image only). Exposure info provides blinkies on picture review as well. Feel free to ask if you have any questions...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

I'm not a video guy and the Z5 is closer to what I wanted. SD cards are much easier on workflow and even with UHS-I cards on the Z5, the buffer holds up just fine. I don't see myself needing to buy UHS-II cards for the camera and I've never had an SD card failure. I was actually considering a...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

Early impressions of the Z5. Auto focus with adapted lenses is not bad using the FTZ, but not as fast or smooth as native Z glass. Though lenses that were fast on F-mount are also fast on the Z5 such as my 70-200mm 2.8 VR II. Lenses like the 300mm f/4 PF VR with 1.4 TC attached feel well...

There's a lot of stuff they could write about. An issue I faced with this Z5 is that Nikon inadvertently or covertly sabotaged third party lenses and adapters. The problem doesn't affect the Z6/Z7, not sure it affected the Z6II/Z7II? With the previous version of Adobe Camera Raw/Lightroom, if you used the Z5 and FTZ adapter with a third...

Nikon's eye-AF isn't anywhere as good as Sony. The Z5 feels and handles more like a mirrorless DSLR, while Sony has a more high tech feel. You can set it to focus skip AF points and it comes with a little d-pad. I don't have any native Z lenses right now, I bought the Z5 more as a mirrorless...

Nikon is finally getting their mirrorless act together! I like the Z5 way better than the Z6/Z7. The Z5 to me feels a bit more polished than the Z6/Z7. It can be powered through USB type-C; it has a higher capacity battery; comes with dual UHS-II SD card slots; has a big and bright EVF...

Nikon Nikon Introduces the Z5, lower cost entry into full-frame mirrorless.

The Nikon mirrorless bodies don't really need the e-shutter for general shooting, unlike Sony bodies that still have an audible clap/click sound. The only reason I like the E-shutter is to reduce wear-n-tear on the shutter mechanism. Some quick ergonomic and general impressions comparing the Z5...

How much of the current market for cameras is enthusiat/Pro?

I don't even know how the camera industry is even surviving right now. At my kids' school (prior to the pandemic), I probably saw less than 10 parents who carry cameras. 5 are probably working pros and the other 5 were carrying something like an older DSLR or a Fuji X100 model body just for...

I'm a little jealous of Canon users. Apparently many of these older Sigma lenses work amazingly well with the EF to RF adapter. Plus Sigma put built-in focus motors in many of the non-HSM models giving Canon users more adapted options.

Probably the last SLR lens I'll adapt on Sony. This is the best copy of this lens I've tried (3 total). The first two were also optically good on an adapter, except they were flawed when mounted to a Nikon DSLR...making it a hard sell if I ever tried to get rid of it! This copy focuses very well...

Totally agree about adapters! I have mostly all native lens options now, but there are only a few AF 50mm f/1.4 options for Sony and they all have their pros and cons. There's the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4, though used copies still sell over $1000 USD; the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art which is a bit more...

The AF is decent with this Neewer adapter. It's basically a Commlite knock-off adapter, with slightly different internals (more sturdier) and custom firmware. Actually I just picked up a bargain bin Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX HSM (non-Art) for Nikon mount. It's buggy as heck on my Nikon bodies (probably due to having older internal lens firmware), but when it works it's actually focuses spot on unlike the two other copies I tried of this lens! It's...

Quick sample shot with the TTArtisan 50mm f/1.4 shot @f/2 mounted on the Techart Pro AF Adapter and Sony A9: Optically this lens is VERY modern. The way it renders, the contrast and colors just pop on a digital camera. OOF backgrounds at f/1.4 are CREAMY. Compared to my Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AI-S...

    Leica TTArtisan to announce a 50mm f/1.4 M-mount lens!

I also noticed that with 7Artisans lenses in regards to flaring. Since TTArtisan and 7Artisans both use DJ Optical to manufacturer their lenses, I'm wondering if it's a design issue or the glass coating used by DJ Optical or a combination of both? Even with older Voigtlander M-mount lenses...

In my opinion, Sony is actually the worst physical mount to adapt lenses to. I think either Canon or Nikon are better suited for adapting due to wider diameter mounts (less chances of vignetting) and thin sensor glass stack on both R and Z mounts (better corners especially with wide angle...
